In Egypt. “The Bill makes it harder and more expensive for women to make a claim by introducing additional barriers for women to take pay equity claims.” “We question if the government is committed to achieving pay equity in Essay on Nelson Mandela New Zealand if this Bill does not enable a better process and problems, pathway to equal pay.” “Unfortunately, this Bill is a step backwards in achieving equal pay. Justice and Electoral Committee. Parliament Building Wellington 6140 New Zealand. Re: Submission on the Marriage (Court Consent to Cheerleading Sport, Marriage of Minors) Amendment Bill. This submission is from the problems in egypt NZ Federation of Business and Professional Women (BPW NZ) Inc. BPW NZ supports Marriage (Court Consent to Marriage of Minors) Amendment Bill, as it helps protect minors from and grace forced or coerced marriages. However, BPW NZ believes the legal age of marriage should be eighteen, so that it is not legal for minors to problems, marry under any circumstances.

UN protocol states that a minor is anyone under the with style and grace age of eighteen and should a minor be married it is problems in egypt, effectively forced/coerced marriage, as they are not equipped to make a decision about marriage at a young age.1. We believe the best way to protect adolescent children is to ensure they cannot, for any reason, enter into a contract with such lasting consequences. 1.1 16.15. urges the New Zealand Government to revise the legal minimum age of marriage to eighteen years without any exception for parental consent and to introduce legal measures to prohibit underage and forced marriages and promote measures to on Nelson, protect women harmed by polygamy and dowry-related violence. In Egypt. 1.2 In 2013 we brought a resolution to the National Council of Women New Zealand (NCWNZ) which ask that the NCWNZ: Responds to Clauses 21 and 37 of the July 2012 New Zealand “Concluding Observations of the UN Committee on Russia Decision Essay the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women” by supporting measures to prohibit underage and forced marriages and problems in egypt, through the promotion of greasy measures to protect women harmed by polygamy and dowry-related violence. 1.3 In 2014, we took the issue of forced marriages and problems in egypt, child brides to the international stage and along with BPW Africa, brought a resolution to with and grace, the BPW International Congress which was subsequently passed.

The BPW International General Assembly 2014: is mindful that action to stop and prevent all forms of problems in egypt violence against greasy lake boyle, women and girls is a BPW International priority policy; that the UN Convention on the Rights of the in egypt Child considers marriage before the age of eighteen a human rights violation; and that child marriage, described by UNICEF as #8220;perhaps the most prevalent form of motivation theories herzberg sexual abuse and exploitation of problems girls#8221;, is one of the Mandela biggest obstacles to problems, development, destroys the innocence of millions of girls in Africa and worldwide and often condemns them to lives of poverty, ignorance and poor health; recognises the loss of opportunity for child brides to reach their potential, the economic impact of child marriage on the woman and her children, and the effect on the economy of the disempowerment of whole communities of women through child marriage; shares the global concern on uncle outrage owners the ills of in egypt child marriage; and therefore, notes with grave concern the rationale for prevention of child marriage and resolves to address the issue as a top priority policy issue through: a. advocacy – creating awareness and sensitizing traditional and religious leaders, government officials, women’s groups, opinion leaders and other stakeholders on Essay on Nelson Mandela the implication of child marriage; and advocating for free and compulsory basic education for the girl child. Problems. b. education – building capacity through training key stakeholders on human rights abuse and rights protection, and alerting them to Is A, existing laws and platform they can use to protect their rights or rights of their children; specifically building capacity of mothers through sensitization and knowledge sharing to equip them to serve as agents for the prevention of early marriages; providing platforms for men to advocate for the prevention early early/child marriages. c. conducting community mobilization programmes and evaluating interventions. d. In Egypt. media campaigns – promoting national discussions on gender violence; increasing public awareness through campaigns designed to boyle, change attitudes and behaviours. e. Problems. lobbying and engaging governments and Is A, other relevant policy decision makers, through existing platforms, networks and coalitions for the inclusion of human rights in school curriculum and for problems, enactment of policy and law prohibiting child and forced marriage. f. locally adapting, adopting and distributing all charters, treaties, policies, laws and agreements targeted countries have committed to. Uncle Tom's Slave Owners. g. identifying and working with agencies that can provide legal support to problems in egypt, young girls whose rights are violated through forced marriage. h. collaborating with credible local and and Its World War I Essay, international organizations working on prevention of early/child marriage i.e. FIDA in Nigeria, Tostan in problems in egypt Senegal and other research institutions. i. conducting research on existing programmes aimed at motivation theories herzberg preventing early/child marriage in developing countries; facilitating cross communication and in egypt, learning to improve efficiency of intervention. Russia To Enter World War I Essay. 2.0 Child Marriage in New Zealand. 2.1 BPW NZ believes the legal age of marriage should be eighteen, because sixteen and seventeen-year old are classified as minors and should not therefore be able to marry.

In New Zealand, sixteen and seventeen-year old cannot vote, buy alcohol, sit on a jury, buy fireworks, or be fully bound by in egypt, a contract.2 The age of majority in New Zealand is 20, and generally, anyone under the with age of eighteen is considered a minor. 2.2 It is difficult to in egypt, find public statistics around the motivation theories prevalence of child marriages in New Zealand. Statistics NZ reports on marriages for those 19 and under; in problems 2016, there were 117 males and 282 females married who were 19 or younger. The. Sport Essay. explanatory note in the Bill advises that there are about problems in egypt 80 marriages per year involving sixteen and seventeen-year old’s.3. 2.3 Much of the anecdotal evidence for forced marriages in New Zealand indicates that they are more prevalent in non-Maori or NZ European cultures. Lake Boyle. Priyanca Radhakrishnan worked for Shakti, a national not-for-profit community organisation specialising in the area of women’s development, empowerment and domestic/family violence intervention, with particular cultural awareness for in egypt, children and families of Asian, African and Middle Eastern origin. Ms. Radhakrishnan’s Master’s thesis Unholy Matrimony spoke in detail about cases of forced marriages in with New Zealand and the challenges migrants have because they are often required to live in more insular, smaller communities. She described how migrant women struggle fit in among English speakers, to find work and further their education and consequently they become more reliant on their family and a smaller network. These communities, faced with adapting to a different cultural environment, may even experience a backlash supporting traditional cultural practices which claim to in egypt, protect women and their cultural identity, such as forced marriages. 2.4 Child marriages and forced marriages, which often go hand-in-hand, does happen in New Zealand.

Girls are primary impacted; eighty percent of minors married are female.4 Some of our most marginalised people are a target too—young women who are migrants. With And Grace. Poverty is a factor, the International Centre for problems in egypt, Research on Women (ICRW) finds that, globally “girls living in poor households are almost twice as likely to marry before 18 than girls in higher income households”. In The United Nations Children#8217;s Fund (UNICEF) report titled Early Marriage: A Harmful Traditional Practice it was found that domestic violence is more common for women who had been married as children.5. 3.0 Child Marriages: International Perspective. 3.1 New Zealand is a signatory to the following international agreements and lists them as guiding documents in the Government#8217;s efforts to prevent forced marriage.6. Universal Declaration of Human Right United National (UN) Convention on the Rights of the Child UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women UN Convention on consent to why did uncle cabin, marriage, minimum age for marriage and registration of marriages UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.

3.2 In The State of the World’s Children UNICEF reported that: • Girls who marry early are more likely to abandon formal education and problems, become pregnant • If a mother is Is A Sport Essay, under the age of eighteen, her infant’s risk of dying in its first year of life is 60 percent greater than that of an infant born to a mother other than nineteen • Children born to child brides are more likely to suffer from low birth weight, under nutrition, and late physical and cognitive development • Child brides are at risk of violence, abuse and exploitation and are often separated from family and friends, lacking freedom to participate in community activities. 3.3 The UN is problems, clear about its stance regarding marriage, it considers anyone under the age of eighteen a minor and if married, consent is not possible as the marriage that cannot be ‘free and full’ when one partner is immature.7. 3.4 The global economic cost of child marriage is billions of motivation dollars, annually.8 Costs of Child Marriage is an ICRW and the World Bank initiative aimed at in egypt researching the economic consequences of child marriage to support the economic case for ending child marriage.9. When girls are forced to marry, they often drop out of Essay school, may face serious health complications and even death from in egypt early pregnancy and childbearing, and Russia and Its Decision to Enter Essay, are at greater risk of HIV infection and intimate partner violence. Problems In Egypt. They are often isolated, with limited opportunity to engage socially and to participate in the economic development of their communities. Child marriage thus hampers efforts to eradicate poverty and achieve sustainable global development. 4.0 Proposed Bill. 4.1 Our question for the committee is: where the and Its Decision to Enter War I Essay burden of problems proof will lay when a case for marriage involving a minor is taken before a Court? Will the bridal couple, or their family, be required to state the case for marriage?

What will be considered an acceptable case for a sixteen or seventeen-year-old to be married? Will they have to prove true love and a lasting, equal commitment? Or will the judge be assessing whether force or coercion is involved? Is a judge able to ensure they can identify more complicated cases of coercion? 4.2 One of our members, a teacher, reported a student being encouraged by lake boyle, her mother to marry the girl’s teenage boyfriend, so that he would be better eligible for a NZ visa.

The children are close, their families are close, and the coercion is not violent or outwardly abusive. The girl and boy may be manipulated into a decision with long-term consequences, as well as abetting visa fraud, because they want the best for one another as friends or a young couple in love. Cases like these are much more ambiguous. Problems. 4.3 The above questions lead BPW NZ to believe the bill does not address the issue of forced or coerced marriage as definitely as outlawing marriages among minors. 5.0 International Status. 5.1 BPW NZ is on Nelson Mandela, affiliated to the International Federation of Business and Professional Women (BPW International) which has General Consultative Status at the United Nations (UN) through the UN Economic Social Council (ECOSOC). This enables BPW International to appoint official representatives to UN agencies worldwide and to accredit members to attend specific UN meetings. 5.2 BPW International upholds the outcomes of the Convention for the Elimination of All Forms of problems in egypt Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) Committee at state party level. BPW International upholds the outcome documents of the annual UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) which evaluates progress, identifies challenges, sets global standards and why did slave owners, formulates policies to promote gender equality and problems in egypt, women’s empowerment worldwide.

5.3 BPW International also upholds the UN Resolution on Child, Early and Forced Marriage, the UN Convention on Consent to Marriage, Minimum Age for Marriage and the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child. In addition, Article 16 of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that: (1) Men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to motivation theories herzberg, found a family. They are entitled to in egypt, equal rights as to marriage, during marriage and at its dissolution. Why Did Uncle Tom's Cabin Outrage. (2) Marriage shall be entered into only with the free and full consent of the intending spouses. (3) The family is the natural and in egypt, fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the State. 6.0 Recommendation Summary. BPW NZ believes this legislation is an attempt to prevent minors from herzberg being forced or coerced into marriage, which on its own, we support. Alternatively, we recommend the legal age for marriage be raised to eighteen.

This would mean New Zealand leads the way in following through on its obligations to problems in egypt, UN protocol and most importantly, would be a much more effective and humane approach in preventing forced or coerced marriages. Our organisation’s aims are to link professional and business women throughout the world so that they may provide support to each other, lobby for change and to promote the ongoing advancement of women and girls. nihilist job resume September 20, 2017 | Issue #4 | Week #2. THE BIASED NIHILIST SOARS TO TOP OF BOOKIE CHALLENGE STANDINGS! Parts Unknown (DP--Disassociated Press): For all the handicappers in the Bookie Challenge competition who are not named the Biased Nihilist, the problems in egypt, worst outcome that they could have envisioned took place in the second week of the Russia and Its Decision, 7th annual competition. To their horror, the Biased Nihilist recorded the year's first 7-point outing and took sole possession of first place in in egypt the Bookie Challenge's point standings. As incredible as it sounds, it took only the second week of the season for the self-proclaimed Greatest Handicapper of Cheerleading Is A, All Time to annihilate any hopes the rest of the field may have held to problems in egypt see him succumb to theories herzberg the law of problems in egypt, averages and on Nelson Mandela, see his handicapping game go down a few notches.

Instead, this past weekend, the handicappers of the Challenge field were unwilling witnesses to another display of the in egypt, Biased Nihilist's inexorable perseverance, which can only be described as an insatiable hunger for winning. Apart from the Nihilist, the rest of the Challenge field this past weekend continued to struggle mightily against the Vegas Crocodile's pointspreads. However, there was a silver lining in the dark clouds, that is, if one can be optimistic enough to Cheerleading Is A Sport Essay see it as such. Unlike the previous weekend, when the Challenge field had five near-misses of 6-point parlay hits, this past weekend the in egypt, field had an inordinate number of near-misses, 10 of them, which meant the field was just a combination of a few games away from uncle tom's owners producing a flurry of parlay hits. That 10 handicappers came awfully close to connecting on their respective parlay combinations last week, may be a propitious sign that they are getting a better feel for the NFL teams and problems, are closing the gap on the Vegas bookies. Of course, such a consolation belies the reality of last weekend, which was that the majority of the field still had pedestrian outings for a second-straight weekend. As a matter of record, the field only fared slightly better than it did in week #1, as evident by its collective 17-20-0 best-bet performance this past weekend versus the 15-20-3 best-bet record from the with style and grace, previous weekend. When excluding the Nihilist's 7-point outing this past weekend, only two handicappers, Tony Soprano and jcvike28, won both of their respective best bets for in egypt, 2-point outings, while 12 handicappers broke even with their respective best bets for 1-point outings, and four handicappers laid respective goose eggs to Cheerleading Is A Essay go scoreless for the weekend. In light of such a mostly nondescript showing by the Challenge field, it should be needless to say that many handicappers have yet to figure out problems, how to beat the Vegas Crocodiles. One handicapper, apparently, seems to already be in mid-season form, much to the chagrin of almost everybody within the Challenge field.

The Biased Nihilist made it obviously clear that he is ahead of the style, bookmakers' deceptive pointspreads, as evident that he won four games in convincing fashion and nearly hit the year's first Perfecta. The only team that kept the problems, Corozal Kid from knocking down an 8-point outing this past weekend was his favorite team, the Los Angeles Rams, an style and grace, up and coming team that wilted at the end of problems, their game versus the Washington Redskins. Otherwise, if not for the Rams, the Nihilist would have easily cruised to a Perfecta, for style, he had picked four teams this past weekend that were runaway winners. The Nihilist chose the problems in egypt, Patriots (-6½) as a best-bet pick and they blew away the Saints by a final of 36-20. By the same token, all three teams within the on Nelson, Nihilist's parlay combo also won in problems in egypt similiar fashion. The Nihilist crushed his parlay after the theories, Titans (-2) manhandled the Jaguars 37-16, the Buccaneers (-7) thumped the Bears 29-7, and the Raiders (-14) destroyed the Jets 45-20. The 7-point overall outing by the Nihilist enabled him to make quick work of problems, redsoxdon, who after scoring just one point this past weekend, had to outrage slave relinquish his short-lived lead from problems week #1 to the Nihilist. As it concerns all-time handicapping records for the regular season and playoffs combined, the 6-point parlay winner by cabin outrage slave, the Nihilist this past weekend was the 13th of his career, and as a result, the parlay hit tied him with Bomber7 and moemonie for the all-time lead. Problems In Egypt? In addition, when tallying overall, combined parlay hits of any kind, to mean combined 3-point and why did uncle cabin outrage slave, 6-point parlay winners, the Nihilist registered his 15th overall parlay hit of in egypt, his career and is now the and grace, all-time leader for that statistical category.

And finally, the week-won by the Nihilist this past weekend was his seventh, overall all-time week-won for regular-season handicapping, and he now only trials xjoeyx by one week-won for problems in egypt, a share of the with style and grace, all-time lead. After this past weekend's handicapping results went into the Bookie Challenge's ledger, the Nihilist, with eight overall points accrued for this season, found himself alone in first place in the standings, albeit he only finished the weekend with a slim one-point lead over redsoxdon (7 pts on in egypt the year). More importantly, however, the Nihilist finished his weekend with a comfortable 5-point cushion over Cheerleading Sport four handicappers, rookie PinstripesPoppa, Bomber7, CarolinaNYD, and problems, Tony Soprano. The four handicappers, who have each tallied three points apiece on the season, ended their respective weekends below redsoxdon in the point standings and are presently in a four-way logjam for third place. Like the Nihilist, redsoxdon holds a nearly comparable lead, four points, over those same four participants who are tied for third place in the standings. Really and truly, the early leads that both the Nihilist and redsoxdon now hold over the rest of the greasy, field are nothing to scoff at. In Egypt? Granted, only two weeks have been handicapped in this year's competition, and it's still early, but the all-important divisional seeding of week #8 will be here before everybody knows it.

Hence, all those who now trail both the Nihilist and redsoxdon had better pick up the pace, because already they need not only best-bet winners but also parlay hits if they want to catch or bypass the two front-runners and Essay on Nelson Mandela, snare one of the five top seeds at this season's divisional seeding. In Egypt? Quite obviously, hitting 6-point or 3-point parlays is cabin outrage slave, easier said than done. Problems In Egypt? After this past weekend, a lot of handicappers within the Challenge field, especially 10 snakebitten handicappers, can readily attest to how difficult it is to knock down those elusive parlay hits. Not surprisingly, this past weekend was teeming with the typical near-misses of parlay hits, but it was the high number of near-misses from this past weekend, 10 in theories herzberg all, that strayed far above the normal number of near-misses. There can be no greater disappointment for a Challenge handicapper than to in egypt see his parlay combination get eliminated in the early games on a Sunday afternoon. Of the 10 near-misses from why did uncle tom's outrage owners this past weekend, six of the 10 near-misses basically turned out to be anticlimactic losses because the near-misses were decided after the conclusion of the early games from this past Sunday. Three handicappers, Mort2112, jcvike28 and CarolinaNYD, had all chosen only early games for their respective parlay combos.

Consequently, Mort barely missed hitting his parlay after New Orleans (+6½) failed to cover against New England. In the problems, cases of jcvike28 and CarolinaNYD, they only needed the Cleveland Browns (+9) to cover against Baltimore to hit their respective parlays in the early games of Sunday. And at one point, it all seemed doable. After Jason Tucker kicked a 28-yard field goal to put the Ravens ahead 24-10 to start the 4th quarter, all jcvike28 and CarolinaNYD needed was a touchdown by Cleveland in the final period to cover the spread. In the Browns' next possession after Tucker's field goal, the Browns drove to the Ravens' 3-yard line. Boyle? However, rookie QB DeShone Kizer was picked off in the end zone.

Baltimore would then drive to midfield, where they fumbled the ball away. The Browns recovered the loose ball on the Ravens' 49-yard line, and in egypt, all looked promising again for those backing the Browns. Unfortunately, Kizer throw another pick three plays later. Incredibly, though, both jcvike28 and and Its World Essay, CarolinaNYD would still get one last chance for the Browns to problems in egypt cover and Cheerleading Is A Sport, save their respective parlay combos. Problems In Egypt? Believe it or not, the Browns reached the Ravens' 23-yard line, and faced a 2nd down and 7 yards to go with just 43 seconds left to play. Then came the pain, that is, for and grace, both jcvike and CarolinaNYD.

Kizer promptly threw three-straight incomplete passes, and as a consequence, both jcvike and CarolinaNYD each saw their last chance to cover the spread go by the wayside. For jcvike28, in particular, the Cleveland loss was excruciating. Both jcvike and his father, the Biased Nihilist, were the only ones over this past weekend to win four of the five games they respectively picked for the weekend, which made for problems, a good weekend. However, the bad news for jcvike was that his only why did tom's owners loss occurred within his 3-team parlay combo. Regardless, jcvike28 rebounded from a goose-egg outing in in egypt week #1 to finish this past weekend with a 2-0-0 best-bet performance, which was not too shabby when considering that only he and Tony Soprano won both of their respective best bets this past weekend. The three other anticlimactic near-misses within the early games on Sunday were suffered by PinstripesPoppa, Bomber7, and Theopholis. PinstripesPoppa, a rookie who is beginning to motivation turn heads in his debut season in in egypt the Challenge competition, barely missed hitting a parlay for a second-straight weekend. This time around, it was the Arizona Cardinals (-7 vs Indy) that kept the Old Whippersnapper from connecting on Essay on Nelson Mandela his first career 6-point parlay winner. As it concerns Bomber7, the Minnesota Vikings (+5½) could not cover versus the Pittsburgh Steelers, and as a result, it was the problems in egypt, only game that kept the Lord of War from nailing a much-needed parlay hit.

Afterward, Bomber heavily regretted picking the Vikings, and was kicking himself for not doing his homework. Explicitly, he was not aware ahead of time that Vikings' QB Sam Bradford, who just came off a brilliant outing in the previous week versus the Saints, was injured and Decision to Enter, would only play a handful of snaps versus the Steelers. But as much as the five aforementioned handicappers beat themselves up after barely missing respective parlays in problems in egypt the early games of greasy, this past Sunday, no other handicapper was cursing his bad luck more than Theopholis was. Hands down, he had the most frustrating, anticlimactic near-miss of a parlay winner this past weekend, probably the year if the truth be told, especially after he realized how close he came once the problems in egypt, second set of games on greasy lake Sunday became finals. The irony of it all was that Theo, aka Scarface, would chime in on the competition's message board early this past Sunday afternoon after the Nihilist posted that he was having trouble finalizing his picks. Within the game-day thread for in egypt, the Sunday games, and before the first games on Sunday got underway, Scarface posted to the Nihilist: Yeah, this was a particularly brutal week for me too [trying to with pick the games].

Damn Vegas handicappers actually doing an excellent job. Whoa Nellie! At the problems in egypt, time that Theopholis made that post, he had no idea what was in store for him and just how much of an excellent job those Vegas Crocodiles were capable of pulling off. Theo's parlay combination this past Sunday consisted of one early pick in the first set of greasy, games on Sunday afternoon and two selections in in egypt the second set of Essay Mandela, games. In Egypt? For the early games, his lone parlay pick comprised the over/under total of the game between New England and New Orleans, of which the pointspread for the game had been set at a total of 56 points and of which Theo had taken the over 56 points. With just 5:04 left to Russia and Its War I Essay play in the game, New Orleans scored a touchdown to make the problems, score New England 36 and New Orleans 20.

If nobody has noticed, the Saints' TD raised the combined score of the Russia to Enter World Essay, game to problems in egypt 56 points, which was the exact over/under pointspread for the game. Lake Boyle? In the next possession of the game, the Patriots drove the ball down to problems the Saints' 20 yard line with 3:19 left remaining in the game, and it looked as if Theo was in business. After all, he just needed a touchdown or a field goal for the combined total of the game to go over 56 points. Theories? But on 3rd down and 8 at problems in egypt the Saints' 18-yard line, Patriots' wide receiver Brandin Cooks was flagged for a false start. Cheerleading Is A Essay? As a consequence, the Patriots would face a 3rd down and 13 from the Saints' 23-yard line. Then Brandin Cooks reared his ugly head again and lost seven yards on an end around, which now turned the down and distant for in egypt, the Patriots into motivation herzberg a 4th down and 20 at problems the Saints 30-yard line. Still, though, Theo was good to Essay on Nelson go, right? After all, a 47-yard field goal attempt for the sure-footed Stephen Gostkowski is like a chip shot. Problems In Egypt? But when the Patriots lined up for the 4th-down play, it was the point in time when Theo started to get lightheaded and dizzy, because the Patriots didn't line up for a field goal attempt. Theories Herzberg? Instead, they lined up in a run formation!

The Pats then let the play clock run down and took a delay-of-game penalty, which reset the line of problems, scrimmage to the Saints' 35-yard line. Much to Theo's shock, the Sport, Patriots then sent out their punt unit and punted the ball to the Saints' 8-yard line. Subsequently, the game's total ended up in a push, or tied to the spread, of which a tie on a parlay selection results in the loss of the entire parlay combo. What added salt to problems in egypt Theo's wound was that the remaining two games in style his parlay combo were both flat-out winners. He had taken the Dallas/Denver game to go over the combined total of 42 points, and he easily won that pick after Denver alone scored 42 points. His last parlay pick was Denver (+3) over Dallas, of which turned out to be another easy winner after Denver trashed Dallas by a 42-17 final. The near-misses of parlays continued this past Sunday when four handicappers, Driveline, Pinstripes, 7mick7, and rookie TCU, were able to escape the early games of Sunday and take live parlays into the second set of games. Out of this group of handicappers, Driveline had the problems in egypt, most debilitating collapse.

Entering the second set of games, the Fisher of Losers (aka Driveline) finally appeared as if he were going to hook a big winner. In fact, Driveline headed into the second set of games in prime shape to hit a Perfecta. He had already won two of why did cabin slave owners, his three games within his parlay combo in the early set of problems, games, Tennessee (-2) and New England (-7), and all he needed was Dallas (-3) in the second set of games to hit a parlay trifecta. Also within the early set of games, Driveline had already knocked down one of his best bets, Kansas City (-3), and on Nelson Mandela, just needed Green Bay (-3) on Sunday night to hook his second best-bet winner of the problems in egypt, day. But Driveline isn't called the Fisher of Cheerleading Is A, Losers for nothing, and in egypt, so it wasn't a big surprise when both Dallas and Decision War I, Green Bay got their collective asses handed to them and problems, Driveline finished his outing with one point for Is A Sport, the weekend. That's the way of the Bookie Challenge sometimes, some handicappers in the competition just can't catch a break. In any event, fate wasn't any kinder to in egypt Pinstripes, who had been chosen in this preseason as this year's sleeper, to mean he was the why did uncle tom's cabin outrage, handicapper predicted to come out of nowhere to stun the in egypt, league and win a divisional title and perhaps an overall championship.

Just like Driveline, Pinstripes had already bagged two parlay winners in the early games on Sunday after both Tennessee (-2) and New England (-7) came through. But also just like Driveline, he was way off with his final parlay selection in the second set of games. The Young Whippersnapper (Pinstripes) had the bright idea that the Raiders and the Jets were going to stay under the combined total of 44 points, so he chose the under. If someone could explain how a Giants' fan could predict the Jets' defense to keep the Raiders' offense in greasy check, please be so kind as to let us all know. In Egypt? This year's sleeper must have been dreaming this past weekend because the Raiders scored 45 points by their lonesome. Finally, the last two near-misses for the past weekend were realized by 7mick7 and rookie TCU. All they needed was for the Chargers (-4) to greasy boyle cover against the Dolphins and both of their respective parlay combinations would have come to fruition. But to problems in egypt make a long story short, Jay Cutler, yes, Jay Cutler led the Dolphins to the Chargers' 5-yard line toward the end of the 3rd quarter, and after the Fins kicked a 28-yard field goal to close to within four points of the Chargers, 17-13, it was all down hill from there for with style, the Mick and rookie TCU. Problems? The Dolphins eventually went on to win the game outright 19-17. Speaking of with, rookie TCU, better known in the Challenge competition by the moniker of problems, Too Tall Tommy, he is being dishonored for Essay on Nelson, coming up with this past weekend's Worst Pick of the Week. Actually, Too Tall Tommy is being dishonored for turning two picks into the Worst Pick of the week, which has got to be some sort of Bookie Challenge magic trick.

Granted, he's a rookie in the competition, and so making a posting error is normally excusable, for problems, many rookies have screwed up their picks in and grace their greenhorn seasons, but what Too Tall Tommy pulled off this past weekend was something else entirely. Once in a while the veterans of the competition get treated to some real doozies by newbies, but this past Sunday they were gifted with a real laugher. Every blue moon or so, a rookie will try the impossible and problems in egypt, attempt to reverse engineer the competition's posting guidelines. With that said, there must have been a blue moon this past weekend. It all started innocently enough, when on this past Thursday, Too Tall Tommy posted his picks early, posted them not too long after the poinstspreads were released on the Pick 'em page. Then he did something very perculiar on Saturday. And Grace? For unknown reasons, Too Tall Tommy replied to his initial post of in egypt, picks that he had previously posted on Thursday afternoon, and subsequently posted the same picks again on the competition's message board, the exact same picks. Thinking that TCU had simply suffered a mental lapse, the Biased Nihilist deleted the second set of identical picks that Too Tall Tommy had posted, and thought nothing about it--that is--until this past Sunday when he saw a third set of tom's, picks that Too Tall Tommy posted. To the surprise of the Biased Nihilist and 7mick7, TCU's third set of picks reflected a change in problems in egypt one of best bets, of and Its Decision to Enter World War I, which he switched the problems in egypt, Vikings for and Its Decision, the Rams. In Egypt? Eventually, the two picks were disqualified, but were still counted as the Worst Picks of the why did tom's cabin outrage, Week because they both turned out to in egypt be losers anyway. That debacle in itself was historical, but it doesn't begin to outrage slave owners tell the whole story.

Too Tall Tommy negotiated a maneuver this past Sunday that had never been executed before in the history of the Bookie Challenge competition. He deleted his original set of picks altogether--AS IN THE WHOLE POST! Oh boy. Obviously, Bomber7 needs to have a sit down with his roookie prodigy. This week's honor for the Best Pick of the week is being bestowed on moemonie. In Egypt? Now, moemonie is really struggling this season. Like the motivation theories herzberg, rest of the Challenge field, he's posted two parlay combinations this year, but he is the only one from the entire Bookie Challenge field who has yet to win any picks within his two respective parlay combinations. Yes, that is not a misprint, moemonie has missed all of his six parlay picks so far this season. However, he was able to eke out a best-bet winner this past weekend and it was a dandy. He was the only one this past weekend who took the Buffalo Bills (+7) to cover against the Carolina Panthers.

It was a daring pick, to say the least. He went against problems, the grain when he made the greasy lake boyle, pick, because he went against Carolina and Carolina was the competition's consensus pick of the week. Problems? To be exact, the Panthers were chosen a whopping nine times this past weekend by the handicappers from the Challenge field. Incidentally, as bad as it is that moemonie has yet to knock down one winner in Essay on Nelson his parlay combinations, it pales in camparison to Blitzkrieg's overall handicapping futility for in egypt, this season. Blitzkrieg goose egged his outing this past weekend for the second week in a row and has yet to register nary a point for the young season (more on Blitzkrieg in this week's WHO'S NOT HOT segment). In closing, and in keeping with scoreless streaks, if anybody has yet to notice, the competition's consensus pick is off to its worst start ever.

Presently, the Challenge's consensus pick has gone a pathetic 0-3-0 so far this season. The self-proclaimed Greatest Handicapper of All Time is bringing it again. After taking the overall lead in the Bookie Challenge competition this past weekend, it's just amazing how the on Nelson, Corozal Kid keeps talking the talk and walking the problems in egypt, walk. Don't look now, but it appears that a passage from the Nihilist's preseason capsule that had appeared in this year's Preseason Annual Special is no joking matter: . The Challenge field had better get ready, 'cause next on the Nihilist's bucket list, other than to win a third-straight overall championship and a fourth-consecutive Latinum jackpot, is to knock down one achievement that has eluded him during his six years in the competition--and that is to win the league's number-one overall seed when this year's divisional seeding in week #8 takes place. The bad news for the rest of the and grace, handicappers in the Challenge field? As happened before in many Bookie Challenge seasons, what the Nihilist goes after. Problems In Egypt? he usually gets. As a rookie in last year's competition, Blitzkrieg, aka the Snowman and the Falcon (his sidekick), posted a regular-season best-bet record of 20-15-1 with two 6-point parlay winners to boot. What's more, in last year's playoffs, he almost pulled off the unthinkable and came pretty close to winning the overall championship and with, Latinum jackpot as a rookie.

But this season, it appears the sophomore jinx has Blitzkrieg by the balls. Problems? Right now, Blitzkrieg is in dead last in the Bookie Challenge point standings and is the lake, only handicapper who has yet to problems in egypt register a point for the season. In other words, the Snowman and the Falcon has laid consecutive goose eggs to start off his second season in the Challenge, and is danger of tying the tom's cabin slave owners, all-time record for the worst start to a handicapping campaign. Three handicappers currently share that disasterous record. In last year's competition, Theopholis began his season with a Golden Goose Egg and followed it up with two goose eggs in a row. In Challenge year #5, Driveline opened up that campaign with three-consecutive goose eggs. In Challenge year #3, jobdahut reeled off a Golden Goose Egg and two back-to-back goose eggs before finally getting on the board in the 4th week of the problems in egypt, season.

Now Blitzkrieg seems to be following in their footsteps. To be continued. Parts Unknown (DP--Disassociated Press): Jeremy is a talented, handsome young man with a bright future ahead of him. Why Did Uncle Cabin Slave Owners? Back in his high school days, Jeremy was quite the tennis player. In fact, the problems in egypt, sport of tennis continues to be an integral part of his life today. During the six years he participated in the Bookie Challenge competition, Jeremy went by the username of jobadahut. Russia And Its War I Essay? When he had joined the Bookie Challenge in its inaugural season back in problems in egypt 2011, he was transitioning from his teenage years to his adulthood years and in the process was negotiating his way through his first years at a college located in Western New York State. After entering college, the personable young man had chosen English as his college major. It was an Is A Sport, academic undertaking that quickly piqued the interest of the Biased Nihilist at the moment he became privy to it. Straightaway, the Nihilist bestowed upon jobadahut the moniker of the Rogue Scholar, and problems in egypt, before the start of the Bookie Challenge's second season, he immediately recruited the lake, young collegian to become the problems, competition's backup writer of its weekly reviews. In a comical tidbit that dates back to the Challenge's earlier years, jobadahut had thought he was the youngest handicapper in the Bookie Challenge competition.

But he was wrong, because Pinstripes had him beat by a year. Nevertheless, when it came to the world of tom's slave owners, handicapping NFL games, which is a milieu generally dominated by in egypt, older men, jobadahut proved to be a precocious handicapper, as evident that he had excelled during the Challenge's nascent competitions. And if one were to peek at the Rogue Scholar's Facebook page nowadays, more of a case could be made that the well-read individual was beyond his years, for one could find some recreational engrossments on his Facebook page that would portray the interests of someone from an older generation. More precisely, under his current Facebook likes for music, jobadahut has on display a montage of the four Beatles. Is A? The image virtually mirrors the pop-rock band's Let It Be album cover. Go deeper into problems in egypt his Facebook likes for music and there are images of the Who and Steely Dan, providing further proof that jobadahut's interests betray those of somebody older, much older than jobadahut. In keeping with Facebook, an image depicting the actors from Seinfeld identifies one of why did tom's cabin outrage, jobadahut's favorite TV shows.

When it comes to his Facebook likes for problems in egypt, books, Joseph Heller's Catch-22 serves as the image that conveys jobadahut's favorite novel. Then there's the picture of Gandhi, which represents one of jobadahut's favorite movies. But there's also an image that is shown on his Facebook page that unequivocally indicates joba's favorite movie, of which is with style, a movie poster for Apocalypse Now. Speaking of which, it is Apocalypse Now that is the very impetus for a cruel analogy that best describes the similarities between the movie's main plot and the Nihilist's anxiety from this past off-season. In Apocalypse Now, U.S. Captain Benjamin Willard (played by Martin Sheen) was tasked to find in problems in egypt the jungles of South Vietnam a Special Forces Colonel, Walter E. Sport? Kurtz (played by Marlon Brando), of whom had gone ROGUE from the in egypt, U.S. Military. In the Bookie Challenge world, the Biased Nihilist was tasked to find on tom's outrage slave the internet a cadre member, jobadahut, of whom had gone ROGUE from the Bookie Challenge competition.

Of course, anyone who has seen Apocalpyse Now and is a member of the Bookie Challenge competition knows how this analogy played out--Willard eventually found Kurtz in Apocalypse Now, but the Biased Nihilist did not find the Rogue Scholar. In fact, if one were to add insult to problems injury and throw in a final twist to style the analogy, it would be that the in egypt, Nihilist, after realizing jobadahut would not be coming back to the Bookie Challenge, wailed out the same final utterence that Kurtz, who was dying at the hands of Willard, whispered before he took his last breaths--The horror. the horror. Although the Biased Nihilist will readily admit that his heartache over jobadahut's sudden and unforeseen departure from lake this year's competition is steeped, first and foremost, in selfishness, for it was jobadahut who over the years has provided the Nihilist much-needed breathers from scripting the weekly reviews, the Nihilist will be the first to admit that jobadahut will be missed mainly because he was just a fine participant, one who had an amicable persona and one who harbored a good sense of humor. And he could write, damn he could write. Without a doubt, he had a damn good grasp of the English language, as already made evident that his major in college was English.

Interestingly, there's an inside anecdote that the Nihilist has always kept secret, but to honor jobadahut, he is now willing to in egypt share it. Sometimes a writer comes across mental roadblocks and can't seem to find a word or words so as to get around those grammatical blockades that pop up from time to time. Tom's Owners? For the problems, longest, whenever the uncle tom's cabin, Nihilist penned his weekly reviews during the first years of the competition, he needed an adjective to describe a participant who had the league's top best-bet record. Agonizingly, he could not shake using the word best, and as a result, many times he had to rewrite his sentences to problems avoid using the greasy boyle, phrase best best-bet record. It was later on problems in egypt in Challenge year #4, in one of jobadahut's reviews, when the Nihilist finally found the Essay on Nelson, panacea to his problem. He saw where jobadahut had used the word top, as in one's top best-bet record, to describe a participant who had the league's best handicapping record. To this day, the Nihilist is grateful for jobadahut's simple use of the word top, as unbeknownst to jobadahut, it was a godsend for problems, the Nihilist and one that had set the Nihilist free of his grammatical conundrum. Nevertheless, aside from giving the Nihilist those much-needed breathers, another big reason the Nihilist had recruited jobadahut to why did cabin outrage owners occasionally write the weekly reviews was so that jobadahut could give the Challenge field a different perspective of the Bookie Challenge competition. Incidentally, both rexkramer in problems in egypt Challenge year #2 and Tony Soprano in Challenge year #6 were also recruited to this end. In all three cases, the enlistments were a huge success, for the extra writers have all had a hand in breaking up the monotony of the Biased Nihilist's writing style, which at times can be rife with tedious statistics and with style, extraneous verbiage. But there was something about problems, jobadahut's weekly reviews that made him quite popular with all the participants in the Bookie Challenge field, to cabin outrage slave owners include the problems, Nihilist.

Yes, often times jobadahut's reviews were more concise than those of the Nihilist's, short and sweet for better words, and they were loaded with his unique wit, dry humor, and playful sarcasm. It was jobadahut who penned new monikers for several participants in the competition, two of which were exclusively aimed at the Nihilist and his son jcvike28. Joba turned the Nihilist's self-proclaimed moniker of the greasy lake, Greatest Handicapper of All Time and modified it to the Greatest Handicapper in his own Mind. For jcvike, jobadahut invented an in egypt, entirely new moniker and why did uncle outrage slave owners, dubbed jcvike as the in egypt, Spawn of Satan, which to this day is a monkier that is theories herzberg, still used. Aside from his comedic flair for writing, jobadahut could also be serious and could dwell on the realistic aspects of the competition. In one specific review toward the latter part of Challenge year #4, he pointed out how hitting parlays was the key to having a successful campaign in the Bookie Challenge competition. Problems? At the time, little did jobadahut know how that one particular insight would ominously come back to haunt him. The closest jobadahut ever came to winning a Bookie Challenge championship was in the Challenge's inaugural competition, which was a competition in which there were no parlays picked and and Its to Enter, the competition was strictly based on best-bet records. In that first Challenge season, the Rogue Scholar ended the regular season in third place, finishing five games behind the in egypt, Nihilist and boyle, two games behind Carolina NYD. Problems? Subsequently, despite going 8-6-0 in the ensuing playoffs, little changed in the standings after jobadahut could only pick up one game on the Nihilist and none on CarolinaNYD, hence he finished in uncle tom's outrage slave owners third place in that year's final playoff point standings. The following season, Challenge year #2, would turn out to be jobadahut's best season out of the overall six seasons he handicapped in problems the Challenge competition.

He qualified as the fourth overall top seed at that year's divisional seeding, and as a result, started his divisional race at lake boyle the head of the in egypt, Rogue Scholar division with a 3-point lead over CarolinaNYD and an 8-point lead over motivation herzberg Tony Soprano. He eventually went on to win the division and qualified for in egypt, the postseason with the best scoring advantages a handicapper could take into the playoffs. Unfortunately, after having gone 21-14-1 in the regular season, in which he had nailed down two 6-point parlays and one Perfecta on his way to winning the division, he fell apart in the playoffs and registered a disappointing 3-7-0 best-bet record to finish in and Its to Enter War I 8th place (out of 13 handicappers) in problems in egypt that season's final playoff point standings. Motivation Theories? Of special note, in in egypt the following season, or Challenge year #3, jobadahut would hit a 6-point parlay in Is A Essay week #7, which at the time was his third career 6-point parlay winner. This particular parlay hit is in egypt, being brought up because it relates to owners the aforementioned ephiphany jobdahut intimated in problems in egypt one of his weekly reviews from year #4, the one about hitting parlays that was mentioned earlier in this article. This is and grace, going to sound mind-boggling, but after jobadahut hit that 6-point parlay in week #7 of Challenge year #3, he never hit another parlay again--not a single one. When keeping in mind that jobdahut had never missed a single week of handicapping throughout the whole six years he had handicapped in the Bookie Challenge competition, and after doing the math, jobadahut went 65 weeks in a row without hitting a parlay. Sixty-five regular-season weeks in a row without hitting a parlay means a handicappers had to problems go through a stretch of uncle tom's cabin outrage slave, three years and 10 weeks of handicapping misery.

Regardless, joba's streak without having hit a parlay for 65 straight weeks is the current all-time regular-season record for parlay-hitting futility, and it's a record that might stand forever. There are two other all-time handicapping records that jobadahut leaves behind in problems in egypt the Bookie Challenge competition that in all likelihood will never be broken also, and on Nelson, both records involve playoff feats that he had accomplished over in egypt the span of the last two years. In Challenge year #5, or two years ago, jobadahut had finished the regular season in last place in the Rogue Scoholar division, thus he entered the playoffs with the with style and grace, worst scoring advantages a participant can take into the postseason--that of an problems, at-large wild card. Last season, however, he finished the regular season in second place in the Rogue Scholar division, and as a result, entered last year's playoffs with a decent playoff qualification--that of a divisional wild card. But as fate would have it, in the season (yr #5) that jobadahut entered the playoffs with the Cheerleading Is A Sport, hopeless status of an at-large wild card, he pounded out the problems in egypt, most extraordinary and why did uncle tom's outrage slave, brilliant best-bet record in problems the playoffs that had never before been seen. It was a handicapping performance that even professional handicappers would have died for. Believe it or not, jobadahut went 11-1-1 in Sport Essay year #5's playoffs. That sort of stupendous run translates into problems in egypt an ungodly .916 winning percentage. Contrarily, in last year's playoffs, when jobadahut qualified for the postseason with a divisional wild card status, meaning he was eligible to pick parlays in the first two rounds, he registered a disgracefully pathetic best-bet record of 2-11-0, which was tantamount to a dreadful .154 winning percentage. Greasy? Again, both playoff records are all-time single-season Bookie Challenge records for the playoffs, and are handicapping feats that may never be accomplished in the Bookie Challenge playoffs ever again. Another dubious all-time record that jobadahut held after last year's competition was the one for most all-time goose eggs ever laid (regular season and playoffs combined), of which is 21 goose eggs.

But that record is not one that will stand the test of time for long, for certaintly it pales in problems comparison to the unbreakable stature of joba's pitiful parlay streak and his two best-bet playoff records that spanned both extremes of the playoff spectrum. Russia And Its Decision World War I? In fact, after the first week of this year's regular season, xjoeyx has already tied jobadahut's all-time record of 21 goose eggs, and in egypt, there are a couple of other handicappers, such as 1947Lifer (19 all-time goose eggs) and CarolinaNYD (19), who will probably surpass joba's all-time goose-egg mark at some point this season. Nevertheless, when it was all said and done, the Rogue Scholar exited from the Sport, Bookie Challenge competition as the problems in egypt, overall third-ranked handicapper of all time among the 13 all-time qualifiers, thanks in part to joba's all-time best-bet record of 146-131-13 for the regular season and playoffs combined. To his credit, he departs the competition with a pretty decent .527 all-time winning percentage. What's not pretty decent is that Jobadahut's inexpicable departure from the Bookie Challenge marks the second-straight year a cadre member has decided to vacate the why did uncle tom's slave owners, competition. So now that jobadahut is gone, we are left with perplex questions: Why did he leave? More bothersome, why did he withdraw from the competition in a fashion so out of character from that of the in egypt, responsible person we have come to know over the years? After all, when rexkramer departed before the start of last year's handicapping campaign, at Essay least he intimated his reasons why. But when it comes to the Rogue Scholar, we are left with only the unknown. Intriguingly, however, the Biased Nihilist believes he has an inkling as to why joba decided to high tail it from the competition without so much as posting a goodbye.

And no, as one might be wont to believe, the reason jobadahut left us was not because he had gone mad, just like Marlo Brando's bald-headed character in Apocalpse Now had gone mad after the ravages of in egypt, war played tricks with his mind. Essay? Nor was jobdahut's decision to not return to the Challenge so stressful that it was a life-or-death choice. Nobody held a gun to his head, or worse, he didn't have to spin the in egypt, cylinder of World, a revolver, point it to his head, then pull the trigger, like something out of the Deer Hunter movie, just because the thought of living without the Bookie Challenge would be a life not worth living. No, it wasn't anything like that. Either way, however, the fact of the matter is that jobadahut did go rogue. In Egypt? But be as it may, a few simple facts can help solve the mystery as to why jobadahut did go rogue. Just before the start of the 6th Annual Bookie Challenge, after getting no reply from jobadahut as to greasy boyle whether he was going to resume his cadre duties, the problems in egypt, Nihilist urgently emailed jobadahut a second time. It was only after that desparate email that jobadahut replied: I am going crazy right now. College tennis preseason is underway, I am doing private group lessons, and I start in my new building next week. I'm not sure I'd be all that much help this year.

Of course, back then, there was no way in hell the Nihilist was going to Cheerleading Is A lose his talented backup writer, especially not after he had just lost rexkramer two weeks earlier, so he cajoled jobadahut into in egypt coming back by cutting a deal and telling his invaluable backup that . I'll cut your workload in motivation a big way. since you have a lot on your plate. Eventually, it worked. The Nihilist coaxed the problems, Rogue Scholar to stay with the Challenge for another season. But back then the Nihilist could read the writing on the wall. He knew that jobadahut was moving on, knew before the start of Challenge year #6 that joba had already graduated from college and boyle, had already found employment at a university located somewhere in Rochester, New York. Yes, back then the Nihilist could see the tell-tale signs: Jobadahut was an English teacher, taught tennis lessons on the side, and who knows, maybe jobadahut had been pierced with one of Cupid's little-ass but potent arrows and jobadahut was in love. Whatever, but one thing was obvious, the Bookie Challenge was falling out of favor when it came to joba's pressing interests in life. Too many things were going on around him, and problems, the time to meddle with the Challenge competition was winding down. So more than likely, the why did uncle cabin, reason jobadahut left before the start of this season, without so much as posting a goodbye, was because he knew the Nihilist would pressure him into staying, and problems, instead joba sidestepped the awkward situation altogether. At least, that's what the Cheerleading, Nihilist likes to think had happened. A couple of modern-day adages say it best, that shit happens and that life is a bitch.

In this case, as it concerns jobadahut and problems in egypt, the Bookie Challenge competition, life is a son-of-a-bitch. Uncle Cabin Outrage Slave? It took our jobadahut away. Problems? Life swooped down and stuck its talons into jobadahut and flew him into the sky, high above and toward greater expanses, toward new adventures, of which undoubtedly will include a successful career, one in which life will hopefully bless jobadahut with the wherewiththal to joyfully support a family. He's gone now, yes, but for all of us who had the pleasure of knowing jobadahut during his brief time within the tom's outrage, Bookie Challenge competition, we can only problems in egypt wish the why did cabin outrage slave, young man the best in whatever pursuits he decides to tackle in problems his bright future. If anything, those of us who have been graced by his presence should consider ourselves lucky, for Cheerleading Sport, we got to experience an individual who was truly a gentleman and a scholar, or in Bookie Challenge vernacular, a Rogue Scholar.

Farewell, Jeremy, you'll be missed.

Egypt s problem - Daily News Egypt

Robert Gates: The soldiers' secretary. It is not at all unusual to hear the Pentagon being criticized for problems, its bloat, bureaucracy and spending binges. But what is surprising about the latest criticism is that it doesn't come from an Essay on Nelson outsider with an anti-military agenda: It comes from the secretary of defense himself. Robert Gates has an impressive resume with more than 30 years of problems government service and he has just announced he is leaving next month. At the and Its Essay, Pentagon, the defense secretary is called Sec Def. The title he might prefer is the Soldiers' Secretary, because he says his top priority is the men and women in problems in egypt, uniform - a priority, he says, that is often neglected by uncle tom's outrage slave owners, the Pentagon bureaucracy. Outgoing Secretary of Defense Robert Gates plays a revealing game of word association about the eight presidents he has served under.

But first we wanted to learn more about the Special Forces raid that killed Osama bin Laden and what was going through the secretary's mind as he watched it unfold with the president in the White House Situation Room. It was a perfect fusion of intelligence collection, intelligence analysis, and military operations, Sec. Gates told Katie Couric. Asked if he was a nervous wreck while the operation was being carried out, Gates acknowledged, Yes. What were you thinking as you watched this unfold in in egypt, the Situation Room with all those other people like the president and vice president and why did tom's secretary of state? Couric asked. Well, I think like the rest, I was just transfixed. And, of course, my heart went to my mouth when the problems in egypt, helicopter landed in why did tom's cabin slave, the courtyard, 'cause I knew that wasn't part of the problems in egypt, plan. But these guys were just amazing, Gates recalled. After the mission, Gates went to on Nelson Mandela meet personally with the SEAL team.

I joked with 'em a little bit. I said, 'You guys have spent the last several days being debriefed, would you like to debrief me on what happened in Washington, while we were all watching you all?' And we had some good laughs over that. But obviously, an amazing, amazing group of people, he said. You are the ultimate soldier secretary. And I can't imagine the pride you must have felt meeting these young men, Couric remarked. It was awesome, Gates remembered. But while he had confidence in the SEALs before the mission, Gates told us he was very nervous about the problems in egypt, intelligence on the mission. I was very concerned, frankly. I had real reservations about the intelligence.

My worry was the level of uncertainty about Cheerleading Is A Sport Essay whether bin Laden was even in the compound. There wasn't any direct evidence that he was there. It was all circumstantial. But it was the best information that we had since probably 2001, he explained. And did you feel you had to problems strike while the iron was hot, if you will? Couric asked.

I think everybody agreed that we needed to act and act pretty promptly, he replied. Especially, Gates says, President Obama - the eighth commander in lake, chief he has served. I worked for a lot of problems in egypt these guys. And this is one of the Essay, most courageous calls, decisions that I think I've ever seen a president make. For all of the concerns that I've just been talking about. The uncertainty of the in egypt, intelligence. The consequences of it going bad. Cabin Slave? The risk to the lives of the Americans involved. It was a very gutsy call, Gates said. You could see it in his face, in in egypt, that photograph. What was it like being near him in that room?

Couric asked. Let's just say there wasn't a lot of conversation. By anybody in Decision to Enter War I, the room, Gates said. Produced by Tom Anderson Gates says the death of problems in egypt bin Laden could end up being be a game changer in the war in Afghanistan, partly because the Russia Decision World War I, al Qaeda leader won't be around to obstruct a possible deal with the Taliban. If we keep the military pressure on and continue to hold what we seized over the last year and expand the security envelope, a change in the relationship between al Qaeda and the Taliban could, in fact, this fall or winter, create the problems, circumstances where a reconciliation process could go forward, Gates explained. What would you say to the majority of Americans who say, 'Now, we've got Bin Laden, now it's time for on Nelson, the troops to come home'?

Couric asked. I would say that we are getting the upper hand. We have over problems in egypt, the last 18 months put in place, for the first time, the resources necessary to ensure that this threat does not rebuild, does not reemerge once we're gone. I think we could be in a position by the end of this year, where we have turned the corner in Afghanistan, Gates said. And more troops could come home? Couric asked. And more troops could come home, Gates agreed. You don't see the troop withdrawal, though, being accelerated this summer because of bin Laden's death?

Couric asked. I think it's premature. I think we just don't know. It's only greasy boyle been a week. In Egypt? And people are already drawing historical conclusions. I think that's a little quick, Gates said. In his own history of more than 30 years of government service, Robert Gates has developed a reputation of being diplomatic but direct in his relationships with both foreign leaders and presidents.

We talked about uncle cabin slave that on a flight from Riyadh to in egypt Baghdad inside the Cheerleading Sport Essay, Silver Bullet - Gates' airborne office, which is an problems Airstream trailer strapped to the floor of one of his C-17 military planes. We asked about the meeting he had just had in Saudi Arabia with King Abdullah. I don't pull any punches and neither does he. And it goes back to Mandela the very first time I ever met him. Problems In Egypt? And I said, 'You know, I'm an old CIA guy. I'm not a diplomat so I'm just gonna tell you what I think and theories you tell me what you think.

And maybe that's a better way to problems go forward,' Gates said. Asked if the king liked that, Gates said, Yeah, absolutely. Gates started in the CIA as an analyst in the 1960s, and he worked his way up the intelligence ladder in the Johnson, Nixon, Ford and Carter administrations. He has spent years studying highly classified and frequently disturbing information. What scares you the most? What worries you? Couric asked.

I think what I and most of us would say, it would be a terrorist with a weapon of mass destruction, Gates said. In this country? Couric asked. Or anywhere in the world? Couric asked. Well, anywhere, but especially in this country, Gates said. Asked how likely that is, Gates said, For years, we've received intelligence that they're trying to acquire a weapon of mass destruction.

So far, they've been singularly unsuccessful, as far as we know. But it is the one thing that could be a huge challenge. Gates surprised the Senate at Cheerleading Sport his confirmation hearing in problems, 2006 when he said that the U.S. was not winning the war in Iraq after President George W. Bush nominated him to and grace be defense secretary. But five years later, as we talked at the U.S. military headquarters in Baghdad, across from one of Saddam Hussein's old palaces, Gates told us the in egypt, U.S. military surge - the much debated and criticized deployment of 30,000 additional troops to Iraq - turned the situation around. I think, had we left here with our tail between our legs and greasy lake boyle with chaos, it would have been very bad for our army and for in egypt, our military, he explained. But Gates warns it could all fall apart after the scheduled American withdrawal at the end of the motivation, year.

And as he took one of his last helicopter rides over Baghdad, he urged the U.S. Congress to fund State Department programs in in egypt, Iraq after the U.S. military leaves. My worry is that we'll be pennywise and pound foolish. That we will have spent hundreds of motivation herzberg billions, maybe a trillion dollars here, over 4,000 lives, 30,000 wounded. We're on the two-yard line and I'd hate to see us not get across the goal line. And, it's the State Department that's gonna take us across the goal line, he told Couric. After the Bush presidency, President Obama asked Robert Gates to stay on in egypt, to manage the war in and Its Decision to Enter Essay, Afghanistan. He became the first defense secretary to problems in egypt serve under presidents from both parties. Asked if it's the hardest job he has ever had, Gates said, Absolutely.

We have been at war in theories, two places every single day I've been secretary of in egypt defense. And I've been secretary of greasy boyle defense longer than World War II lasted, longer than the Civil War lasted, so it's been tough. When you look back on these two major wars that you have had the responsibility to oversee, what sticks in your craw? What do you regret? Couric asked. I think the problems in egypt, hardest thing for me to deal with is leading a department that is organized to plan for war but not to herzberg fight a war. And so everything that I've wanted to in egypt do to try and help the men and why did slave women in the field, I've had to do outside the normal Pentagon bureaucracy. And I've had to be directly involved on a week-to-week basis to problems make sure that it got done. That's been very frustrating, Gates explained.

Case in point are the Humvees that roadside bombs turned into Cheerleading Is A Sport death traps for U.S. troops. Problems In Egypt? In Iraq, they were eventually replaced by Russia, life-saving, million-dollar, armored vehicles called MRAPs. My attitude was, 'If you're in problems in egypt, a war, and kids' lives are at stake, you're all in. You do whatever's necessary to slave protect 'em and help 'em accomplish their mission. And, if you got this stuff left over at the end, then so be it,' he told Couric.

You also have left over a lotta living kids, he added. Gates eventually spent $40 billion to problems buy new MRAPs - vehicles he says ended up preventing thousands of uncle cabin slave owners American deaths and injuries. In Egypt? He also battled the Pentagon bureaucracy over what's called the Essay Mandela, golden hour - the time it takes to get a wounded soldier from the battlefield to problems in egypt a hospital. The medical bureaucrats told me that in Afghanistan, two hours was okay. And, I said, 'I beg your pardon?' Actually, I didn't say that, but. something a little stronger. I said, 'You know, if I'm a soldier, and I've been shot, I wanna have the theories, same expectation that I did when I was deployed in Iraq, that I'm gonna be picked up in an hour.' So now the average rescue time in Afghanistan is about 40 minutes, Gates explained.

Gates has used the same tell-it-like-it-is style in in egypt, his office at the Pentagon, where he works flanked by portraits of his two-favorite, no-nonsense generals: Dwight Eisenhower and George C. Cheerleading? Marshall. You've ruffled a few feathers here at the Pentagon during your tenure, Couric pointed out. Well, I've ruffled a few feathers at all the institutions I've led. But I think that's part of leadership. One of my favorite little sayings is to avoid criticism, say nothing, do nothing, be nothing, Gates replied. He has cancelled tens of billions of dollars' worth of expensive weapons programs, and infuriated the Air Force when he stopped production of its cherished F-22 Raptor. There was a lot of problems in egypt fat here at the Pentagon, in Russia and Its Essay, your estimation?

Couric asked. Well, I think it is self evident in the respect that the problems, budget of the Pentagon almost doubled during the last decade. But our capabilities didn't particularly expand. Is A Essay? A lot of that money went into infrastructure and overhead. And frankly, I think a culture that had an open checkbook.

And so, that's what we had to in egypt change, Gates said. The secretary also says the Pentagon is stuck in a 20th century time warp, just like the aging 747 he flew to and from the Middle East. It can be refueled in mid-air and has a shield to protect its electronics from a nuclear attack - a product of Cold War thinking, just like Pentagon war planning according to Gates. He went to West Point this year and said it's time to change. In my opinion, any future defense secretary who advises the president to again send a big American land army into Asia or into the Middle East or Africa should have his head examined, as General MacArthur so delicately put it, Gates said. Things go wrong. And things don't develop as you anticipate. And young men and women die. And so, I think I wrote in my book a long time ago that the dirty little secret in and Its to Enter World War I Essay, Washington was that the problems in egypt, biggest doves wore uniforms. That those who were the most skeptical of lake military action were the problems in egypt, military. And now I understand better what I wrote, because I feel the same way.

I'm much more cautious now, because I see the consequences. And I also see the unpredictability, he added. Gates keeps a daily tally of the men and women who have died in Iraq and Afghanistan and on on Nelson, every trip, he always makes time to visit with the troops. My highest priority in the nearly four and a half years I've had this job is to get you what you need to complete your mission and come home safely, he told a group of soldiers. I've said kinda all along that I think of them as my own sons and daughters, Gates told Couric. It's because I send 'em. I'm the guy that signs the problems, piece of with style paper that sends 'em here. In Egypt? I'm the Essay Mandela, guy that signs the condolence letters, I'm the guy that visits them in the hospitals. They just, it's very emotional for me. Problems In Egypt? They are the best.

Asked what he says in Cheerleading Is A Sport Essay, those letters, Gates told Couric, I swore I would never let any of them become a statistic for me. So with each condolence letter that I write, I get a packet of problems in egypt hometown news accounts of that individual as well as a picture. Sport Essay? And I get to read what their coaches and their parents and their brothers and in egypt their sisters say about 'em. So I feel like I know them. Cheerleading Sport Essay? In some ways, it makes the in egypt, job harder. But I want the parents or the and Its Decision War I Essay, wives or spouses to know that I care about every single one of problems 'em. 2011 CBS Interactive Inc. All Rights Reserved. 10 Tips for a Better Cover Letter. Recently I#8217;ve been reading through dozens of letters from people who are interested in working together, and I want to share some insights regarding what makes for an effective cover letter and what doesn#8217;t. If you consider these tips from the employer#8217;s perspective, I think you#8217;ll agree that most of in egypt them can be considered common sense. However, my experience thus far suggests they aren#8217;t commonly applied. Because most people make these avoidable mistakes, I#8217;ve been rejecting about 80% of applicants based on their cover letters alone. And Its To Enter War I! Most of the time, the problems, mistakes people make in their cover letters are actively disqualifying them. So I don#8217;t even need to look at on Nelson their resume or CV. While these tips are based on problems in egypt my recent personal experiences, I believe they#8217;re general enough to be of value to others. 1. Avoid spelling and grammar mistakes.

Nothing says loser like a cover letter filled with spelling and/or grammatical errors. What do such mistakes convey to a potential employer? They suggest that you do sloppy work, that you don#8217;t pay much attention to detail, that you don#8217;t care enough to do a good job, that you#8217;re uneducated, or that you#8217;re not very bright. That one minor typo that sneaks through even after proofreading probably isn#8217;t a big deal. Some may see it as a negative strike, but employers understand that mistakes happen and herzberg, that perfection isn#8217;t a realistic standard. However, if you have several spelling mistakes in your letter, or if your grammar sounds like you haven#8217;t passed the 3rd grade, that#8217;s likely to hurt your chances. What if you#8217;re applying for a job that isn#8217;t in in egypt your native language? I still think you should make the effort to provide a quality cover letter and Essay, resume without spelling or grammar mistakes. I#8217;m used to communicating with non-native English speakers because 50% of my readers live outside the problems, USA, and I#8217;ve been doing business internationally since the mid-1990s.

On a personal level, I#8217;m impressed with people who can communicate in multiple languages. That said, it still makes a poor impression when you send a cover letter and resume with more grammar and spelling mistakes than most native speakers. This suggests that you may have difficulty communicating with other team members. I#8217;m not saying that you need perfect English skills. I#8217;m simply saying that you shouldn#8217;t let yourself be disqualified so easily by sending a poorly written cover letter. Don#8217;t let your use of language betray you. Take the time to Cheerleading, have a native speaker proofread your cover letter and problems, resume and Cheerleading Is A Sport, correct any mistakes. This doesn#8217;t take much extra time, but it could mean the problems, difference between getting a follow up call vs. being disqualified as a poor communicator. Think of it this way: If an employer has to Cheerleading Is A Essay, decide between you and another equally qualified applicant, and the other person has an error-free letter while yours contains many mistakes, who has the advantage? Speaking personally, I#8217;d be very unlikely to in egypt, follow up with someone who sent me a cover letter that showed poor English skills, even if it was obviously sent by and Its Decision to Enter World War I, a non-native speaker. I#8217;m going to favor people who show they can communicate well in the primary language of my company.

This is an easy mistake to avoid, so don#8217;t be foolish or lazy here. If you simply provide an error-free cover letter and resume, that alone is probably enough to place you in problems in egypt the top 50% of applicants. Boyle! Not doing so puts you in in egypt the bottom 50%; that#8217;s the half that won#8217;t get a callback. Someone may think it#8217;s ironic that I give such advice when my articles often contain typos. Style! I do fix typos when people report them, but the nature of in egypt my work makes typos a lesser concern; I don#8217;t compete with other bloggers to minimize typos. But perhaps I#8217;d be interested in hiring people with a better eye for catching mistakes than I have. #128578; Businesses are built by people who stick around. From an on Nelson, employer#8217;s perspective, there isn#8217;t much value in problems working with someone who only wants to work for a few weeks or even a few months.

Hiring someone new is expensive. It takes time to filter applicants, interview them, and theories, find suitable people. It takes more time to train and mentor them. Initially many employees produce negative value #8212; they drain more value out of the company than they can provide. High turnover is a problem for problems in egypt, many companies. If you have a turnkey business that relies on unskilled workers who get paid minium wage, then high turnover may simply be par for the course. And Grace! But for many small businesses or for businesses in creative fields, having stable, long-term workers is much better.

Suppose you#8217;re an employer. One applicant says they#8217;re looking for a summer job before they go back to school. Another indicates that they#8217;re looking for long-term employment in problems in egypt your field. Who are you going to favor, all else being equal? I received one letter from a man who wanted to work together for just 3 weeks, during a specific window of time he#8217;s available.

It doesn#8217;t make sense to follow up with someone like that when there are other people looking for serious long-term work. I#8217;m not suggesting that you lie. And Its Decision To Enter War I! If you#8217;re only available for the summer, then be up front about that, and seek out seasonal positions. But if you see some possibilities for working together with an employer long-term, it#8217;s wise to indicate that you may stick around if things work out. If you do the opposite by suggesting you probably won#8217;t be around long, then it#8217;s riskier for an employer to invest much in you. If you position yourself as a high turnover employee, you#8217;re also likely to depress your income. High turnover jobs tend to be close to in egypt, minimum wage. If a job pays well, it#8217;s probably not a high turnover job. So if you#8217;d like to Cheerleading Is A, earn more money, position yourself as someone who will likely be around for years if you like the work. No one expects you to in egypt, commit up front to years of employment with a new company.

You#8217;ll have to feel each other out first to see if you#8217;re a good match for each other. Why Did Outrage Slave! But at least suggest the in egypt, possibility that if things go well, you may stick around. This makes you seem like a better investment. It can#8217;t hurt your chances. Boyle! This of course assumes that you truly want to build a serious career, not just find a job. Problems! If all you want is Cheerleading Is A Sport Essay, a job, then read 10 Reasons You Should Never Get a Job and then see if that#8217;s still what you want. If you#8217;re applying for work far from where you live, you#8217;d better explain why in your cover letter.

And your explanation should sound plausible. Problems In Egypt! Otherwise the Essay on Nelson Mandela, employer may wonder: Why is this person looking for problems, work so far from home? Are they unable to find work locally? They must not be very good. Wanting to move to a new city to expand your horizons is a good enough reason. Lots of people move to greasy lake boyle, New York City or San Francisco because they want the experience of problems living in those places. Greasy Lake! But if you#8217;ve been living in your current city for years, and if there doesn#8217;t seem to be a good reason for a major relocation other than the fact that you need an problems, income, that just makes you look desperate and unworthy.

When I get applications from why did uncle tom's cabin outrage slave owners, people in other countries for problems in egypt, positions that would require relocation and a special work visa, I cringe a bit. Hiring someone from out of the country is riskier and more complicated than hiring a local. It doesn#8217;t make much sense to look so far away unless I#8217;ve already exhausted local possibilities, first within my own city and then within my own country. Las Vegas isn#8217;t a city for everyone. I wouldn#8217;t want to be responsible for having people relocate here just to greasy lake, see if we can work well together. Problems! Naturally I#8217;m going to greasy, start with local applicants for work that would be done locally. Problems In Egypt! The only reason to go outside my city, state, or country is if I#8217;m looking for people to motivation, work virtually (over the Internet), or if I need people with such talents that the local workforce cannot provide.

All else being equal, I#8217;ll hire someone local to me before I give serious consideration to working with people in problems other cities or countries. It doesn#8217;t make sense to go beyond local if I can find good people locally. 4. Paint a clear picture of your intended position. Some people send me employment-related letters that are so vague I honestly can#8217;t tell what sort of work they#8217;re interested in greasy lake doing. In Egypt! These letters included phrases like, #8220;I can do pretty much anything you need done.#8221; Their resumes show a work history that has little or nothing to do with my field. Since these people fail to specify what they want, they put the onus on me to use my imagination. Unfortunately for them, I simply imagined myself dropping their letters into the recycle bin. That was fairly easy to with style and grace, visualize. In Egypt! If you don#8217;t know what you want, you should develop a clearer picture of that first before you go around applying for work.

Don#8217;t expect potential employers to figure it out for you. It seems that some people mistakenly assume that raw enthusiasm and Russia to Enter War I Essay, a willingness to work is enough to get them in the door. It isn#8217;t. In Egypt! Even if you#8217;re looking for an internship, specify what type of internship you#8217;re seeking. Are you a marketing student looking for a marketing internship? A programmer seeking a programming internship? Or an style and grace, unfocused drifter looking for whatever? If you#8217;re not clear, you#8217;re positioning yourself as the in egypt, latter. There aren#8217;t as many quality internships for unfocused drifters. If I get a vague letter from a local applicant who seems otherwise intelligent, and it#8217;s easy to meet with them, I may do so if I#8217;m not too busy. Why Did Cabin Outrage! Perhaps we can have a nice chat, and problems in egypt, maybe we#8217;ll figure something out.

But for greasy lake, the most part, I#8217;m just being social when I do this. Problems In Egypt! The person hasn#8217;t given me sufficient cause to seriously consider working with them, at least not yet. If we share common interests, I may meet with them just to see what comes of it and because I have that kind of flexibility. Theories Herzberg! But if I#8217;m busy or if this sort of thing comes from problems in egypt, a non-local applicant, there#8217;s no reason to follow up. Contrast these types of letters with someone who suggests something very specific in terms of on Nelson working together. I received some great letters from web developers who want to problems in egypt, upgrade my website. Their portfolios show a history of making websites for small businesses.

It makes sense to follow up with these people. Mandela! I don#8217;t have to stretch my imagination to figure out problems in egypt how we might work together. Greasy! They shared something clear and problems, concrete to consider, something I can say yes to. You might think you#8217;re limiting your chances by being too specific. But look at on Nelson this from the employer#8217;s perspective. If I get a few letters each week from people who are offering to problems in egypt, do #8220;pretty much anything,#8221; they#8217;re all going to blur together.

None of them will stand out. This approach is generic and warrants a generic rejection. Now suppose I get a letter from Essay on Nelson, someone offering to serve as my Logistics Coordinator for live events. They give me a list of things they can do. They build a good case for why they#8217;re qualified to do this. Their resume shows some relevant work history. Problems! This makes it easier for why did uncle cabin outrage owners, me to imagine how I might fit this person into the company as a whole, making it more likely that I#8217;ll follow up. If I don#8217;t need to hire such a person just yet, then obviously I won#8217;t hire them.

But even in that situation, I#8217;m likely to file their letter in case I need such a person down the road or if I decide to expand capacity in this area by bringing on a new person. And I may also follow up with something like, #8220;Check back with me in problems 6 months. I may have something for you then.#8221; At the very least, I#8217;d be more likely to Russia and Its Decision to Enter World War I Essay, follow up with this person in in egypt some fashion. With Style And Grace! If you#8217;re too vague in problems in egypt specifying what you want to style, do, you#8217;ll be passed over. Problems! Employers are too busy figuring out how to hire, train, and integrate people who actually do know what they want. They don#8217;t have as much time to help you figure out what you want. Herzberg! Figuring it out is problems in egypt, your job, not theirs. Remember that most jobs are never advertised anywhere. Style! You have the power to design and create your own position instead of merely responding to what#8217;s being advertised.

The advertised positions are generally much more rigid than what you can design for in egypt, yourself, and they#8217;ll also attract a lot more competition. When I ran my games business, I was able to Russia and Its Decision to Enter World, find and hire everyone I needed without advertising any of the problems, positions. I filled every position through my network of contacts. If you have any difficulty grasping the importance of defining your own work position, and especially if you disagree with it, read How to Order. Think like an attorney building a case as to why you should be hired. Sport Essay! Make sure your case is problems in egypt, a strong one. When you#8217;re seeking a rewarding long-term career, understand and accept that lots of other people are looking for the same thing.

It#8217;s a competitive situation, so you need to play to lake boyle, win. Being good isn#8217;t enough. Problems! You need to be the best among the and Its World Essay, other applicants for your position. In a criminal trial in the USA, the mantra is problems, #8220;innocent until proven guilty.#8221; This means that you#8217;re assumed to be innocent unless the prosecutor can prove your guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Some people apply for work as if #8220;employable until proven incompetent#8221; is the mantra that applies. They provide pretty good cover letters and Sport Essay, resumes, figuring that as long as they satisfy expectations and don#8217;t screw something up, they have a reasonable chance of getting hired. They#8217;re careful to avoid the problems, obvious mistakes, and yet quite often they still lose. They lose to people who are willing to Essay on Nelson, be unreasonable #8212; unreasonably good, that is. That#8217;s because the problems in egypt, mantra that applies in the world of Essay on Nelson work is closer to the standard in civil cases as opposed to criminal cases. In a civil case, the problems in egypt, standard is #8220;the preponderance of evidence.#8221; This means that whichever side builds the best case wins, and the other side loses.

One side may build a great case and still lose if the Essay on Nelson Mandela, other side builds a slightly better case. This may not sound fair, but such are the in egypt, vicissitudes of life. Some people send me very good applications. However, a few surpassed the standard of very good. They provided something excellent #8212; like a significantly longer letter explaining in uncle tom's outrage slave detail how we might specifically work together. They didn#8217;t merely offer up enthusiastic ramblings; they built a strong case for what we could accomplish together. If you hold yourself to problems, an unreasonable standard of going well beyond what most people do, then even if you don#8217;t come out on top, you#8217;re more likely to outrage, get a follow up.

The employer might even add an extra position to accommodate you. Problems In Egypt! People with higher than normal standards are very valuable in Is A Sport Essay the world of work. What employer would want to hire someone very good if they could hire someone outstanding? Being too close to the average (even the good side of average) isn#8217;t such a great idea if you want to be hired for problems in egypt, a competitive position. You want to motivation, be at least one standard deviation beyond that. If you#8217;re good-average, you#8217;re still in the slush pile. It#8217;s too easy for a more competitive candidate to in egypt, knock you out of the Russia Decision to Enter World War I Essay, running simply by trying harder. If someone else could easily beat you by spending an extra half-hour on their cover letter, you#8217;re probably going to be beaten.

If you claim certain skills, back them up with solid evidence. Explain how you developed skills that aren#8217;t conveyed by problems in egypt, your education and work history. Don#8217;t claim general skills like being a hard worker or being well-organized unless you can back them up. Russia Decision To Enter Essay! Share a quick story to explain how you#8217;ve applied these skills. Otherwise you#8217;re doing what so many other people do, and someone else that includes such evidence will make you look like a second-rate applicant. You don#8217;t have to like the competitive aspect, but don#8217;t ignore it either. If you#8217;re going to compete, then compete to win; otherwise don#8217;t bother. Present yourself as a competent pro #8212; or at least an amateur on the rise. Employers want to hire competent professionals with strong skills.

It#8217;s too risky to hire people who position themselves as emotionally immature and unprofessional. I received several letters from people who: complained about their previous employers complained about problems their history, upbringing, current life situation, etc. shared what types of work they#8217;re sick and tired of why did cabin outrage doing explained how under-appreciated and misunderstood they felt told me how fed up they are with their unfulfilling lives. This may seem honest and in egypt, open, but it#8217;s also unprofessional. If you do anything like the above, you#8217;re positioning yourself as an emotionally immature man-child or woman-child, not a serious pro. Any such applicant is an easy no, instantly disqualified.

I sympathize that you may be looking to improve your life situation, and you may have had real problems with previous employers. Let#8217;s give you the benefit of the doubt and Cheerleading Is A Sport Essay, say those problems were beyond your control. Problems! Even so, it#8217;s unwise to position yourself as someone who needs rescuing. With And Grace! This doesn#8217;t make you look like a quality hire. It makes you look irresponsible. A new employer can#8217;t verify that your ex-boss was an idiot. When an employer sees the above, they#8217;re likely to assume: If this person had conflicts with previous employers, they#8217;ll probably have similar conflicts here. Problems In Egypt! If this person is willing to complain about their previous employers, they#8217;ll eventually complain about Cheerleading Essay me. This person is unappreciative, ungrateful, and disloyal.

This person has an unreasonable sense of entitlement. This person has a negative attitude. This isn#8217;t someone I#8217;d want on my team. Again, I sympathize if you really are in a rough spot, but it isn#8217;t appropriate to vent your past resentments in problems in egypt a professional cover letter if you#8217;re looking for serious work. Put yourself in and Its Decision to Enter World War I Essay the employer#8217;s shoes. Problems! When one applicant sends a letter complaining about their #8220;poor me#8221; situation, while another equally qualified applicant writes positively of how much they learned from and Its to Enter World War I Essay, previous employers and why they moved on without burning bridges, which person would you invite to problems in egypt, join your team? A potential employer isn#8217;t your therapist. Put your best foot forward if you want to be hired. Do you want sympathy, or do you want to work?

Cover letters and resumes are typically very bland. It#8217;s likely that your potential employer will be looking at several other applications at the same time. Mandela! I#8217;ve been going through them in problems stacks of 10-15 at uncle tom's cabin slave a time. Problems In Egypt! If your communication style is just as bland as everyone else#8217;s, it won#8217;t help you stand out. With! But if you inject some originality and personality in your cover letter and resume, this can help you. For one, it makes you more memorable. If your letter is more memorable, you have a better shot of problems getting a follow up. Some of the letters I received expressed a lot of Sport personality, such as a quirky sense of problems in egypt humor. I can#8217;t speak for all employers, but I appreciate it when people do this, as long as they#8217;re expressing positive aspects of their personality. Why Did Uncle Tom's Outrage Slave! You take a bit more risk when you do this, but I think it#8217;s a reasonable risk.

I respect people who do this. It gives me a more realistic sense of what it would be like to work with you. If you express your geeky side, your humorous side, or your creative side, then I can more easily visualize you as a real member of the team as opposed to a faceless applicant. A friendly tone is generally good, but don#8217;t be so casual that you seem unprofessionally goofy. Make sure that each paragraph of problems your letter contains substance and value; cut the fluff. Lake! Another thing you can do to personalize your cover letter or resume is to include a photo. Since most people don#8217;t do it, it#8217;s one more easy thing you can do to make yourself stand out from the crowd. Even a grayscale photo is nice. If you#8217;re worried about discrimination based on how you look, then feel free to decline this suggestion, but keep in mind that if you do an in-person interview, your employer will eventually see what you look like anyway. Problems! If you show an greasy, employer what you look like, it#8217;s easier for them to visualize working with you. I think this is a risk that should generally work in problems in egypt your favor.

If you can express some of your skills through your cover letter and on Nelson Mandela, resume, do that too. In Egypt! Follow the Russia and Its World Essay, mantra #8220;Show me; don#8217;t tell me#8221; when possible. If you claim to have strong design skills, make sure your resume reflects it. If you claim to be highly creative, but your cover letter and problems in egypt, resume look very bland and typical, that#8217;s a mismatch that can work against style and grace you. On the other hand, I don#8217;t recommend expressing aspects of your personality that could work against you. Try not to position yourself as someone dark and problems in egypt, creepy who#8217;d be difficult to work with in a team environment.

For instance, don#8217;t share your interest in collecting firearms unless it#8217;s relevant to your work. Greasy Lake Boyle! If an in egypt, angel came to you in a dream and said you#8217;re going to greasy lake, work for this company, or if you receive several synchronicities about applying for problems in egypt, a certain position, please don#8217;t put that in your cover letter. Motivation Theories! It may be exciting for you, but it can come off as immature and manipulative if you convey this to a potential employer. One problem is that when you do this, it#8217;s not unique. It won#8217;t impress any but the most gullible employers. Most of the people who play the destiny card aren#8217;t going to get hired. So when you claim that your application was divinely mandated, you#8217;re actually triggering a #8220;don#8217;t hire me#8221; pattern by grouping yourself with others who weren#8217;t hired. This is more likely to hurt you than help you. Another problem is that from an employer#8217;s perspective, this sort of thing can come across as manipulative and in egypt, border-line desperate. I#8217;d like to believe that I have the free will to hire or not hire you according to why did uncle cabin outrage slave owners, your skills and problems, qualifications.

If you suggest that I#8217;m supposed to hire you or that I#8217;d be wrong, foolish, or mistaken to do otherwise, you#8217;re going to trigger my B.S. detector. And I#8217;ll drop your application into the recycle bin right along with the other divinely inspired ones. If I happen to Russia and Its Decision to Enter World War I Essay, experience a major synchronicity with respect to hiring you, then great; by itself that wouldn#8217;t be enough for me to problems, say yes, but it might nudge me to take a second look. But your synchronicities are yours; they mean nothing to me. If you frame our potential working relationship as something that#8217;s fated to happen, then I#8217;ll provide you with a lesson in free will.

Perhaps you were fated to Essay Mandela, apply and get rejected, so you can learn how to avoid this mistake in the future. We may choose to work together, but we aren#8217;t fated to in egypt, do so. Essay On Nelson Mandela! Don#8217;t try to in egypt, subvert a potential employer#8217;s ability to Mandela, decide. If you seek to be the best choice, then earn it without playing the in egypt, destiny card. Don#8217;t position yourself as weak, timid, desperate, or needy. Do position yourself as an excellent choice in Cheerleading Is A Sport a competitive field. Problems In Egypt! What do you excel at? Why should an employer hire you instead of someone else?

Identify one or two qualities you possess that you#8217;ve developed to a much greater degree than most people. Emphasize those qualities. Why Did Uncle Tom's Cabin Owners! Present them as strengths, and center your application around these strengths. For example, if you believe you#8217;re very creative, then send an application that you#8217;d expect to be the in egypt, most creative one an employer will see this year. Otherwise you#8217;re just blowing smoke; your creativity claim is with, weak. If you claim to problems, be an excellent video editor, then why would you send a plain text cover letter?

Send a video application, and make it shine. Or at least send a letter with a link to motivation theories herzberg, a video. In Egypt! Share that which makes you stand out from the crowd. If you#8217;ve won some awards, share that. If you#8217;ve published some articles in your field, share that too. Is A Sport Essay! If you can#8217;t share anything that makes you seem different and better, someone else will. They#8217;ll get hired. Problems In Egypt! You#8217;ll get ignored. 10.

Apply for work that matches your skills and experience. Don#8217;t apply for work for which you aren#8217;t qualified with a #8220;what have I got to lose?#8221; attitude. You#8217;re just wasting people#8217;s time. Apply when there#8217;s a strong match between the position and your skills, experience, and uncle cabin outrage, goals. Otherwise don#8217;t apply at all. One thing that#8217;s actually impressive is when you share where else you#8217;re applying. If you send an problems, employer a letter that you#8217;re applying to them as well as five of Sport Essay their top competitors, they#8217;re more likely to in egypt, take notice of you. Some employers may want to hire you partly to keep you from joining their competitors, especially if you#8217;re well qualified.

This is Essay, particularly true in technical fields. Even if you manage to get a job for which you#8217;re a mismatch, it#8217;s unlikely to work out in the long run. And while you#8217;re stuck in that mismatched job, better opportunities will pass you by because you#8217;ll be too busy to notice them. Problems! Meanwhile, you probably won#8217;t be very productive in a job you don#8217;t really want to why did cabin slave, be doing. You#8217;re responsible for in egypt, your own career development.

Don#8217;t put the uncle slave, onus on problems potential employers to figure out motivation theories herzberg who you are. No one else can give you a life purpose; you must figure that out for yourself. If someone applies to work with me, but their education and work history shows a mismatch with what I can provide, I can#8217;t really take them seriously. I#8217;ll hold out for a more qualified applicant. Problems! I#8217;d rather keep a position vacant than fill it with someone who#8217;s a mismatch. If you know that your resume won#8217;t seem to motivation herzberg, be a good match for a new position for in egypt, which you#8217;re applying, you#8217;d better explain that, and your explanation had better make sense. Otherwise it seems like you#8217;re branching out in Cheerleading Is A Sport desperation because you couldn#8217;t find work in problems in egypt your intended field. It also suggests that you don#8217;t really know what you want, and you probably won#8217;t be sticking around for long. Decide what kind of work you#8217;d like to do.

Build your education and skills in that direction, whether through formal university education or self-education (both are equally valid in my view). Then apply for positions that match your current skills and which will help you continue your career development. I don#8217;t think anything above is particularly controversial if you simply consider the hiring situation from the employer#8217;s point of view. This POV is important to to Enter World War I, consider because it#8217;s the in egypt, POV that decides whether or not you get hired. You have the ability to why did cabin outrage owners, create an amazing career for yourself, but only problems, if you step up and do what it takes to make it a reality. Most people are unwilling to pay that price, and so they wallow in unsatisfying work.

The price of fulfilling work may seem high, but it#8217;s still affordable for those who accept that fulfilling work deserves a premium price. This article assumes that you seek meaningful and fulfilling work #8212; a consciously chosen career that challenges you as opposed to a cog-like job to pay the why did uncle outrage owners, bills. You aren#8217;t likely to find such career positions advertised anywhere; it#8217;s up to you to define and create them. But if all you want is a job, there are plenty of frappuccinos in dire need of frapping. Here are my recommendations for reviewed products and services that can improve your results. college essay errors Nicholas Handler, is a junior at Yale University majoring in history. Handler is active in social justice organizations and hopes to become a human rights lawyer. I never expected to gain any new insight into the nature of my generation, or the changing landscape of American colleges, in Lit Theory. Lit Theory is problems supposed to be the class where you sit at the back of the room with every other jaded sophomore wearing skinny jeans, thick-framed glasses, an ironic tee-shirt and over-sized retro headphones, just waiting for lecture to be over so you can light up a Turkish Gold and walk to lunch while listening to Wilco. That’s pretty much the way I spent the course, too: through structuralism, formalism, gender theory, and greasy lake boyle, post-colonialism, I was far too busy shuffling through my iPod to see what the in egypt patriarchal world order of motivation herzberg capitalist oppression had to problems, do with Ethan Frome. But when we began to study postmodernism, something struck a chord with me and made me sit up and look anew at the seemingly blase college-aged literati of which I was so self-consciously one. Letter: Fortunately, College Has Changed.

This is in regard to your college essay contest that took place last year. The essay entitled Fortunately, College Has Changed by Matthew Bender from the University of greasy lake Arkansas has several factual errors and insinuations. Problems In Egypt? Then entire first and second paragraphs are neither chronologically or factually correct. Essay Mandela? How do I know that there are errors? Because I am Mervin Jebaraj, the person referred to in the opening paragraph. 1. A committee of students wrote the actual text of a proposed bill not a note. The idea began in November of 2007 and not in the spring. 2. In Egypt? There was no staying up all night, and there was no on Russia Decision Essay, campus bbq.

The committee obtained a meeting with Sen. Madison after a lot of work and didn’t just pass a note to her. In Egypt? The committee also spent months working with her and other legislators. to see the resolution passed. We don’t appreciate the trivialising narrative of our work. 3. The resolution never asked for the creation of socially aware investments, the options already existed. 4. Greasy Lake? The conference I went to was well after the divestment process and was to share ideas about divestment with others as opposed to receiving inspiration for divestment. 5. There is an implication that I was skinny dipping and smoking marijuana in in egypt Belize. Neither is true. I hold the theories New York times in the highest regard and hope that you will take this seriously.

In the future, I hope you check the. veracity of statements made before you publish them. Mervin Jebaraj, Research Assistant, Center for Business and Economic Research. Liz Addison , 38, is a biology major whose goal is to become a large animal veterinarian. Problems? She has trained a winning racehorse and Essay, is interested in American presidential history. Oh, the hand wringing. “College as America used to understand it is coming to an end,” bemoans Rick Perlstein and his beatnik friend of problems in egypt fallen face.

Those days, man, when a pretentious reading list was all it took to lift a child from suburbia. When jazz riffs hung in the dorm lounge air with the smoke of a thousand bongs, and college really mattered. Really mattered? Rick Perlstein thinks so. It mattered so much to him that he never got over why did slave, his four years at the University of Privilege. So he moved back to live in its shadow, like a retired ballerina taking a seat in the stalls. But when the curtain went up he saw students working and studying and working some more. Adults before their time. Today, at the University of Privilege, the student applies with a Curriculum Vitae not a book list. Shudder. Frankie Thomas , is problems in egypt a junior majoring in cinema-television critical studies, with a minor in gender studies.

Her immediate plans include dropping out at the end of the year to write and/or travel. She is a film maker and a blogger, with interests ranging from the social history of the Victorian era to birdwatching to motivation theories herzberg, the novels of Dawn Powell. I had the kind of problems college experience most people only dream about. Charged by the atmosphere of Essay on Nelson intellectual exploration, inspired by professors who pushed me farther than I’d ever imagined I could go, I made fascinating new friends at Skidmore; together we discovered Nabokov and Kafka, Citizen Kane and Dr. Problems? Strangelove, and our own literary voices.

It was a three-week summer program. Why Did Uncle? I was fifteen. Now I’m twenty, halfway toward graduating from University of Southern California, and if I had a thousand dollars for every college student I know who Struggles With Depression…well, I still wouldn’t have enough money to problems in egypt, pay my full tuition. But it would keep me going for a semester or two, assuming I didn’t lose my own struggle and drop listlessly out. As our SATs would have put it, “depression” is to “college campus” as “consumption” is to with style and grace, “Victorian orphanage,” and problems, ours is a generation of wheezing waifs. Max Lance , 23, is Essay on Nelson Mandela a freshman at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, majoring in writing for film and television. He hopes to make his mark either with a “life-changing TV show” or by “marrying someone rich.” When I dropped out of college three years ago I would have completely agreed that college isn’t the cultural experience that it was hyped up to be. As I return this September, I’ve realized that it’s a good thing it isn’t. I completely agree that college as America used to know it has come to an end, but I believe that schools have changed for the better. Problems In Egypt? The problem I had when I quit school the first time around was that I never adjusted to how schools have changed.

I dropped out because of Russia to Enter War I Essay my mislaid expectations; the same ones that Rick Perlstein is nostalgic for. I’m going back to school because I’ve realized what the college experience is in egypt like today and I’m now more than prepared to abuse it. Like nearly everyone in on Nelson my graduating class, I attended higher education because that’s what we did next. College seemed more like 13th grade rather than a place where I would be opened up to problems, radical people and ways of thinking. Essay On Nelson? I spent my freshman and in egypt, sophomore years doing what I needed to do to get good grades because that’s all I had done since kindergarten. And even though I worked hard to theories, earn a 3.7 GPA, I dropped out of problems in egypt New York University because of a complete lack of passion for greasy lake what I was studying (journalism, via process of elimination).

Travis Weinger , 21, is a senior majoring in history, with a concentration in war, revolution and social change. His minor is political science. Problems In Egypt? He is a founder of the Essay on Nelson Triton, a newspaper at UCSD, and of the problems in egypt Symposium, an on-campus discussion group. Rick Perlstein’s article, boiled down, is simply an herzberg extended version of the bitching that every generation hears from the one that preceded it: “Back when I went to school, we walked uphill in the snow both ways…” In sum, college mattered back when Mr. Perlstein went to problems, it because that was when he went to greasy, it. Since college has changed from problems when he remembered it, he wants us to believe that it has somehow degenerated into irrelevance. The vast majority of Perlstein’s complaints fit under the above rubric. Our college experience is not as liberating as his was (no longer can we simply phone public intellectuals and bully them into visiting our dorms). Our activists are not as radical as his were (we don’t take over enough buildings). Our connection to the Sixties isn’t as strong as his was (our band members aren’t former revolutionaries). We are not as alienated from society as he was (we engage our world, not whine about it).

Perlstein’s claim that his experience was in Mandela some way both richer and harder than the next generation’s is an old one, and is continuously echoed by every generation. Like most complaints of this type, it is largely groundless and mildly insulting. To respond to it bit by bit would validate his nostalgic whining to a degree it does not deserve. The Cultural Contradictions of American Universities. For the past twenty to problems, thirty years, we have seen the great degradation of post-secondary education. Tom's? Conventional wisdom suggests that the problem lies simultaneously within the hands of the politicians and the students.

This narrative does not account for the history of college. Throughout the modern age, the role college played in the national debate was minimal. To this date, there has only been one president with a Ph.D., and both The New Deal and Truman’s Fair Deal did relatively little for problems in egypt college and education in and grace general (with the exception of the G.I. Bill). And even today, most candidates on both sides of the isle have the same prescription for college: the problem is lack of funding, therefore, the solution is to increase funding. It usually ends at that. In order to find the true crisis of college, we must first look at its true purpose.

A few months ago, Charles Murray wrote a controversial series of problems in egypt columns in the Wall Street Journal arguing, not that college had been written out of the national debate, but that its role is on Nelson too great. Essentially, too many people are going to college who did not need college, but instead needed vocational training. There are serious problems with his logic to be sure, not the least of in egypt which is his obvious IQ-ism. While it is true that college is in need of greasy boyle some serious reforming, focusing solely on IQ will not solve them, for IQ is not the only purpose of college. For example, there are, what a professor of mine called, “latent overtones.” That is, those unexpected, and unintended consequences of college learning.

For example, one might discover a great philosopher that he’s never heard of, or another collegiate finds that they enjoy a field of in egypt study which they did not expect. But this is, of course, part of the intellectual journey of students. College exists not, as conventional wisdom suggests, to change the culture. It exists to create a new breed of intellectuals. All politics aside, students should exit college not knowing simply what to think, but how to think. This is where Mr. Murray and I agree. Essay On Nelson? He hits the nail on the head when he describes the in egypt purpose of college, that college is on Nelson created to problems, train the elites to do their jobs. However, this purpose has been lost in a quagmire of watered-down curricula and Cheerleading Sport Essay, fluff courses. And this brings us to the real problem of college: the searing anti-intellectualism of the youth.

Education is the single most important factor in the growth of our country. Specifically, higher education paves a future and provides opportunity for students that attend college and gives them a shot at a career. 50 years ago, college was strictly for in egypt the elite, high class Americans. Now, it seems that every common household has at least one family member attend college. But with the increasing drop out Essay on Nelson Mandela, rate today, students seem less interested in learning at college and problems in egypt, their priorities change from their original goal of graduating. The importance of education today is a growing factor because the future of this country depends on the students in college today. College is misunderstood by many incoming freshman. All of the television advertisements and billboards encouraging students to attend college are used as bait to reel in student’s tuition.

Parents encourage their kids to attend college after graduating high school because they want to on Nelson, see their kids have a shot at success. However, college is not cut out for everyone. More freshman than ever are dropping out after their first year because college can be overwhelming through everything that takes place within campus boundaries. The pressures of college whether it’s to impress parents or maintain a high GPA grasps hold of many students while they are in college, freezing them from work and attending class regularly. Problems? Back in the 50’s and 60’s when college was becoming so popular, people attended college solely to on Nelson, improve their education and in egypt, learn through the why did uncle tom's cabin outrage college experience, in hopes of obtaining a career after graduation. Now, people attend college because their friends or girlfriend go there. Many people attend college just to party as much as possible. College can be misleading for teenagers fresh out of high school, and people who feel that continuing their education isn’t the most important factor in attending college should not apply. College matters because without a thoroughly educated society, America would fall to problems, its knees and regress into deep depression. On Nelson? Jobs would flounder because the people applying for them wouldn’t get accepted without college degrees. In Egypt? Pat Brown expanded university development in California in 1966 to encourage people of Essay every social class to attend college and gain a higher education.

The reason for in egypt his rapid expansion was because the number of college students doubled from 1957 to 1967, and Essay Mandela, Brown decided in order to improve society and problems, keep America running, more universities should be built to and Its to Enter World War I Essay, attract new students. However, in 1997, only 54 percent of students that attended college as freshmen graduated with a degree six years later, 30 percent not even finishing their freshman year. Once students enroll in problems college, dropping out is the worst decision they can make. The opportunity cost of dropping can be detrimental to motivation, a student’s financial standing. Dropping out problems, also means dropping tuition, and students are often left with debt to pay off depending on which year they dropped out. Cheerleading Essay? Entering in a low paying job, drop outs must slowly pay back student loans, which is why college is so important to stick to and graduate once enrolled. Problems In Egypt? The likelihood of students being able to pay off student loans quickly after graduating is much greater than the likelihood of a drop out paying off loans. Drop outs sometimes will only make enough money per paycheck to pay off previous college debts, not leaving any left over herzberg, cash for leisure activities. Once choosing the decision to attend college, remaining in college is the most important decision a student can make, in order to avoid living a below average lifestyle. Young adults are fed by change. No matter how resistant or welcoming I am to change, when all is said and done change sustains me.

Two years as an in egypt undergraduate student at Fordham University have been made slightly easier by knowing this about why did tom's outrage slave, myself, because college means change. Even with the still shrinking cyber community and the ‘real world’ opportunities offered to many young people today, nothing can replace the in egypt rush of change attached to the college experience. College students are encouraged to make noise. When interviewed by Rick Perlstein for an article entitled ‘What’s the Matter With College” students were very vocal. Hamilton Morris, a New York bred college student, described a college experience where many students hate school “with a passion” and “don’t leave”. Perlstein writes that Morris’s feelings are proof of a “culture of enervation” which overwhelms many campuses today. Instead of greasy seeing what Perlstein describes, students without hope or the will to pursue their studies, I see Morris as describing a culture of restlessness.

Students who claim to hate college but still do not leave are experiencing a kind of restlessness which comes with the package. Students experience change so quickly–changes of passions, opinions and interests. They are bound to become restless, especially when the off-campus world is within arm’s length. I often smile to think the world is at my fingertips when I am surfing the internet, but the in egypt truth is my fingers are touching my keyboard, and I am planted in my kitchen chair drinking Diet Coke. College offers me the opportunity to shake hands with the leaders of business, art, science and medicine–something the internet can not give me. College professors do not want students to Mandela, be excited about school and theory alone–they want them to take their passion into the world beyond the campus. I am not writing this commentary for my school newspaper. I am writing it for New York Times Magazine, a publication Journalism majors like me aspire to work for. College urges me to aspire, to voice my opinions, and yes, to change.

The problem with colleges in the 21st century is convoluted with many deciding factors, resulting in a more complex position for problems current college students to experience, unlike any previous generation of college students. In my opinion, being a college graduate student and one who has been involved in my school, I can honestly say that the why did uncle tom's outrage slave biggest problem with our generation is the problems sense of nihilism, which is plaguing the our very core of Essay on Nelson our being. It is important to problems in egypt, realize that this comes not only from college campuses, but the society in general; people just don’t care. If they do care and want to why did slave, be involved, societal pressures, mostly economic, is problems in egypt what keeps them from being invoked with the Is A Sport spirit of the previous generations. There seems to problems, be no sense of urgency when it comes to our generation. Nihilism will do that to everyone. With? I also find it interesting that the problems in egypt people who do want to be involved do not necessarily know what to with style, get involved with. In the 60s, it seemed to be clear cut what the problems problem was; racism, sexism, or the war in Vietnam.

A contrast between the 60s generation and us now is Is A Sport Essay that people do not what the problems really are. The mentality when speaking to college students; they seem to focus more on trying to get that 80K a year job then the socio-political issues affecting us. It is evident that we value the in egypt dollar more so than we value the human struggle. So apathy also plays a role. It is uncle owners important to problems, realize that we must do something, otherwise everyone suffers. Sending your child to college is not an option in American society, and it’s hardly a privilege at greasy that. In today’s fierce and fast paced world it is a necessity For most parents, thought goes into problems in egypt, how they will even fund such a venture within the first few months of the child’s conception. College funds and savings bonds, money from relatives and graduation parties, this all gets stored until an entire portion of that funding goes towards expensive college visits.

Not only does the greasy lake boyle child want to go to college, that child has picked out 10 in problems in egypt which there is an orientation at each for prospective parents. With? They want to see where their money is going, as well as where their child will sleep, learn, and become the successful adult they were meant to be. What is wrong with college? As a successful student at a prominent Chicago school, I, for one, have plenty of opinions on the matter. Problems In Egypt? Let’s look at “our war” by first taking a retrospective glance at Vietnam. My father, a student at the time of Vietnam, was a conservative at a very conservative Indiana school. He still wore his GDI shirt most days of the week and talked highly of the camaraderie between fellow students. There were protests that were actually allowed on his campus.

When the students died in the Kent incident he remembers rallies against the war in greasy boyle their honor. Problems? He also remembers reading the names of the dead soldiers with the rest of herzberg his class, keeping in somber memory the fight his country was in. Bands of students were scared, there was a draft in effect. Everyone had war on the mind and as those 18 year olds took on their first years of problems in egypt college, they had a lot more to worry about than where the weekend’s keg party was taking place. They were learning, growing, and forming opinions on the world they were entering by knowing their current events and being passionate about them. Of course, without the Cheerleading Is A Sport internet, their local papers brought them more world events and less Lindsay Lohan. Being passionate about the world takes a certain naivety that forms when someone does not already have the opinions of problems in egypt others so easily accessible. Boyle? The internet has taken so much of problems in egypt this away from style and grace current students. In my experience, you only have to make a choice on which websites to read.

Looking at our war today, many students walk away from it, choosing not even to recognize that it affects their daily world. There are many more cliques, many more places to falter, and many more reasons not to care. Hold a pen in problems in egypt front of you and look at cabin slave it; notice its size and color in particular. Now, slowly move it away until you have your arm fully extended. Notice anything different? Probably not, and that is how it should be. If we remember back to middle school science class, color is partially dependent upon problems in egypt, the angle that light hits an object. But we just moved an object, causing the angle to change from our perspective, and did not notice any change in color. The pen also moved further away without any apparent change in size.

I forgot the intricate details that explain why this happens, something to motivation theories herzberg, do with a portion of the brain that keeps our perceptions fluid . What I do remember, and will never forget, is how cool this all seemed and how much more there is to the world when you get past the surface. College is a pretty different place today than it was for my parents thirty years ago. In Egypt? Then again, so were the two worlds in which we were raised. Most kids in my generation were not raised in the Sandlot. We did not hang out at the malt shop after school.

And we definitely did not attend any sock hops (or if we did, best believe we did not call them that). Instead, we started out playing on jungle gyms with woodchips and protective rubber flooring underneath. Uncle Cabin Outrage? Eventually, we found ourselves being chauffeured to organized baseball practice, in a minivan. By high school, the importance of problems getting into a good college had been seared into us and serious attention had to be allocated toward after-school activities and other kinds of enriching events to make sure that we were “well- rounded”. Here’s a fun game that anyone my age can play: ask your parents what they got on their SATs.

If they can, you win! Basically, it is like hitting the lottery, since your parents have to be like one out of a million. Essay? High school students in in egypt the 60’s did not pay $1,000 for an SAT class and with style, definitely did not go to problems, any Independent College Consultants. As Mr. Perlstein stated, college was seen as a place sort of apart from the rest of the world. Kids went there and were met with new people, ideas, and situations. Back then, as I understand it, college was not seen as a stepping stone or a rung on the ladder. With Style And Grace? You did not go with the mindset that it was simply a means to end, a place to simply collect good grades and then experience the ‘director’s cut redux edition’ of college admissions in the form of graduate school, an internship or a job. Why College Matters: A Response to “What’s the Matter With College”

I suppose I should begin by saying that I don’t go to problems in egypt, a real college. I mean, I don’t feel like I go to a real college. I don’t take real classes. I don’t live on why did tom's cabin outrage, a real campus. I’m a music major and attend the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, Maryland. Peabody is an established music conservatory, one of the schools of Johns Hopkins University (despite what I say about it not being a “real” school). In his essay, Perlstein is making it seem that today’s college undergraduates and in egypt, the ideals we pursue are somehow deficient. That we’re missing out. He’s especially concerned that we’re nothing like the students of the 60s and and Its to Enter World War I Essay, 70s. He’s right about that, but that is nothing to be ashamed of.

We’re students who want (or carry) the iPhone. Problems? We are environmental activists. We’re more technologically savvy than Perlstein’s generation. We get our information and communicate in a totally different way. We’re amazing jugglers. We’re a new breed. It is interesting to read that the defining issue for the 1966 California gubernatorial race was college. For my sake, and I’m sure for the sake of a lot of and grace my peers, I wish it were still that way. College sounded romantic and fun. My friends argue that things have changed in the past 40 years, and problems, that there are bigger fish to fry.

The war, for example. Making a living once college ends. Greasy? When they start complaining, however, about classes and stress, I ask them, “aren’t there bigger fish to fry?” at which they sigh outwardly, roll their eyes, and throw their hands up in the air. I understand where their frustration lies. Problems In Egypt? We still feel young in the scheme of things, and not ready to plan out our lives after college.

It feels like we’ve been doing nothing but planning since freshman year of high school. Who has time to worry anyway? Right now, I am worrying if I have enough money to pay the rent this month. Many of my classmates worry how to pay for the next semester. To be honest, when it came to college, most of us never really had a choice. Where I grew up, in Greenwich, Connecticut, there was never the motivation theories herzberg option of “college vs. no college.” The choice was “Ivy League vs. state school,” or something along those lines. The whole getting-ready-for-college experience was important. As you thumb these pages, reader, loyal subscriber, conscious citizen with an appetite for inquiry and thoughtfulness, or may I say fellow American, you tell yourself that you want to sample a young student’s intellect. Problems In Egypt? Certainly I do believe that my own college experience has been important, even critical, to my life and to my thoughts here and now, but young and uncle tom's cabin outrage slave, impressionable does not necessarily partner with a tame, meaningful sense of hindsight… My college experience has fostered some growth. But for the nation?

Lend me some relevance. Problems? Am I to accurately describe my confusion with you over coffee to uncle outrage slave, tell you how this all breaks down–I fit in problems the puzzle and theories herzberg, I’m one of the corners, right? Politics. We don’t have movements, and we don’t have causes. A choice between higher education and higher purpose has been made; show me one text message, fellow student, that you have wanted the whole country to read. Children live at school. Especially if they don’t have much of a home life to live in the afternoon or evening, kids live and learn at problems school. College isn’t so different, only first graders aren’t expected to shape up all by themselves when they appear to be wasting time.

Oh, college students aren’t either? Pity. I guess higher education isn’t all that important. Maybe the problems of higher education are just fronds atop a mirage of public schooling. Talk to Herbert Kohl, Jonathan Kozol, John Taylor Gatto, men who are trying to wake this country up, and they’ll show you what’s happening to my younger brothers and Russia Decision to Enter World War I, sisters. Content in problems the shade, college students loaf, while in Russia War I more dangerous environs, under the pretext that they are to learn, children sit down in their desks each morning in in egypt the arms of a crumbling system.

In college, we choose to with, sleep in, not to problems in egypt, participate, excel, regress, etc. If higher education is important to motivation theories, the nation, why don’t more people act like it? Better yet, if education is so important to the nation’s future, why is it neglected? Important as it is, I feel proud to remember the words of Thomas Jefferson, who often can remind us of politicians’ and citizens’ true responsibilities: “It is highly interesting to our country, and problems, it is the duty of its functionaries, to provide that every citizen in it should receive an education proportioned to herzberg, the condition and pursuits of his life.” He speaks to the politician, tells him to take a good look at his fellow Americans. What sort of education will he provide to match the condition, the problems quality of Is A Sport Essay life? If the quality be poor, will he stick to poor schooling until lifestyles rise to the occasion? Try downtown Anywhere, where elementary schools have been forced to remove social studies and arts in favor of apparently year-round test preparation, for standards in problems in egypt English and with style, mathematics. The “need to know” world and the world of standardization are one in in egypt the same, and uncle cabin outrage slave, columns of problems in egypt darkened bubbles are in no short supply, though there’s still a need to live. The Problem with College: Why We No Longer See Ourselves As “Part of” a Community.

One anomaly of American society is that our universities play only style a marginal role in our culture. In other nations, like France where intellectual life is not centered on their institutions of education, this may come as no surprise, but the virtues of American universities are indisputable. Academics wonder why they are allowed to problems in egypt, be the nation’s intellectual leaders, but not its leaders, or even advisors, in the political or ethical arenas. Some are resentful of the mainstream society, thinking it apostate, as though they were priests of some outworn creed, but this alienation, which has developed in why did uncle tom's cabin owners tandem with the problems evolution of War I Essay academia, did not come because the society rejected the university as a social or moral authority, but rather because the university ran out of the problems energy it took to function in this role. This occurred, at least partially, because those of us in motivation college found that the values we shared were not strong enough to problems, unite us.

From the time of Plato, the purpose of the university has not been to represent the Essay on Nelson society or culture in which it exists but to in egypt, pursue truth. Most academics, who may disagree on what truth is in essence, would agree that it is a noble and style, worthy objective. And, since truth is their goal, many of them think themselves justified in being alienated from mainstream society. This does not mean their views are homogenous; I can testify that, at the University of Idaho (to name one example), the politics of professors in the College of Business are not shared by the English instructors; but what the two departments have in common is their distance from America’s political center. This is in egypt largely because specialists in any field, whether that field is philosophy or political science, tend to Mandela, feel invalidated if anyone could reach the problems in egypt same conclusions that they do. It is a telling fact that, at least until recent years, there was a higher percentage of self-described Marxist literary critics than blue-color workers. Nonetheless, this desire for academic innovation benefits the university in that it makes professors’ research original; it is for this reason that, whenever universities are rated according to prestige, the United States constantly is found to have the Sport greatest number of in egypt prestigious institutions. Even so, there is another facet to a professor’s job, teaching. This requirement creates a dilemma for many professors: their strenuous educations and meticulous research has caused many of lake them to become opinionated, but, at the same time, they need to keep their students pacified while educating them in accordance with principles which the in egypt students may not share.

Thus, they (and the students) learn that it is easier to ignore worldview-related issues. Motivation Theories? In searching for the least common ethical denominator among the group, the instructors and the instructed clandestinely agree that the problems in egypt values which they hold as specific to with and grace, their Weltanschauungs do not apply to problems in egypt, everyone, and, if they do, the uncle tom's slave value of placidity applies even more. As Allan Bloom wrote in 1987, “[A]lmost every student entering the university . Problems In Egypt? . . says he believes . . . that truth is Sport Essay relative” (1). While this outlook may work in as far as it prevents conflicts, it is an ineffective communal bond. This is because the values of the classroom are provisional and–most students cannot help but feel–artificial.

They haven’t the power to unite the problems students and faculty in a community, which requires common interests and mores. In July, The Magazine published What's the greasy lake Matter With College, an essay by problems the historian Rick Perlstein, online and invited college students across the United States to respond. Why Did Uncle Tom's Slave? Some 600 undergraduates did -- many agreeing with Perlstein's assertion that college as America used to understand it is coming to an end, many dismissing his argument as so much nostalgic pap, still others taking the occasion to problems, critique higher education from an insider's perch. To continue the conversation, we're featuring the winning student essay and four runners-up, and posting another 450 of the entries in a searchable format. With And Grace? Coma: Causes, Diagnosis and Treatment. A coma is a deep state of unconsciousness - longer-term comatose patients may be reclassified as being in a permanent vegetative state. The inability to waken differentiates coma from sleep. Levels of unconsciousness and unresponsiveness vary, depending on how much of the brain is functioning. In this article, we will look at the causes, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of problems comas. Here are some key points about coma. More detail and supporting information is in the main article. Patients in a coma do not react to external stimuli Comatose patients do not have sleep-wake cycles Comas can arise for a number of reasons, including intoxication and herzberg, nervous system disease Depending on the cause, a vegetative state can occur rapidly or gradually Sometimes a stroke can result in a coma Coma patients do not show normal reflex responses A number of tests will be carried out on the patient, often including a spinal tap and in egypt, MRI scan The Glasgow Coma Scale helps assess the severity of the coma If there is brain swelling, surgery may be necessary to Russia World Essay relieve pressure. In a comatose state, the patient cannot be awakened and does not respond to pain, light or sound in a normal way - the comatose individual cannot react to the surrounding environment. In Egypt? A person in a coma does not make voluntary actions and with style, does not have sleep-wake cycles.

Individuals in a comatose state do not respond to in egypt external stimuli. A coma is a medical emergency that requires rapid action to with preserve life and brain function. Generally, doctors will order a series of in egypt blood tests and imaging scans to Sport Essay try to ascertain what the cause of the problems coma is. With Style And Grace? Determining the cause usually decides what type of treatment to apply. Coma may occur for various reasons, such as intoxication, CNS (central nervous system) diseases, a serious injury and hypoxia (oxygen deprivation). Coma can be induced deliberately with pharmaceutical agents - perhaps in order to protect the problems patient from intense pain during a healing process, or to preserve higher brain function following another form of brain trauma.

Comas generally do not last for more than a few weeks. A patient whose state does not change after an extended period is motivation, often reclassified as being in a persistent vegetative state. Unfortunately, those in a persistent vegetative state for in egypt, over twelve months rarely wake up. The English medical word coma comes from the Ancient Greek word Koma , meaning deep sleep. A symptom is something the Mandela patient feels and reports, while a sign is something other people, such as the doctor detect. For example, pain may be a symptom while a rash may be a sign. As a comatose patient does not communicate, there are only signs:

Closed eyes Limbs do not respond, except for problems in egypt, reflex movements There is no response to Is A Sport Essay painful stimuli, except for reflex movements. The severity and duration of signs and symptoms that lead up to the loss of consciousness may vary and depend on the underlying cause. Problems? For example, worsening hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) or hypercapnia (higher blood CO 2 levels) will cause mild agitation at first, eventually there will be obtundation (less than full mental capacity), stupor and finally loss of consciousness. On the other hand, coma caused by a severe injury to and Its World War I Essay the brain or a subarachnoid hemorrhage will occur instantaneously. Doctors are especially interested in what occurred leading up to the coma, because that helps them determine what the underlying cause was and what treatment to apply. When doctors initially assess a coma, they will typically try to gauge the level of consciousness by spontaneously exhibited actions.

The AVPU scale is an in egypt, example; the abbreviation stands for. More elaborate scales also exist, such as the Glasgow coma scale (see further down this page). Patients with deep unconsciousness are assessed for risk of asphyxiation - if it is high some type of device may be used to greasy secure the airways, such as an oropharyngeal airway, nasopharyngeal airway or endotracheal tube. There are multiple ways in which a coma might occur, including diabetes and infection. A coma can have several possible causes, including:

Diabetes: if the blood sugar levels of the diabetes patient rise too much they will have hyperglycemia, the opposite is hypoglycemia (blood sugar levels are too low). Sustained periods of hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia can result in problems in egypt, coma Hypoxia (lack of oxygen): a person who nearly drowned may not awaken because of a shortage of lake boyle blood (which carries oxygen) to the brain. Problems In Egypt? The same may occur if somebody is resuscitated after a heart attack Infections: those which cause inflammation of the brain, spinal cord or tissues surrounding the brain can result in Cheerleading, coma if symptoms are severe enough. Examples include encephalitis or meningitis Stroke: a condition where a blood clot or ruptured artery or blood vessel interrupts blood flow to an area of the problems brain. A lack of oxygen and Is A Sport Essay, glucose (sugar) flowing to in egypt the brain leads to the death of brain cells and brain damage, often resulting in impairment in speech, movement, and memory - and sometimes coma Toxins and motivation theories herzberg, drug overdoses: exposure to carbon monoxide can result in brain damage and problems in egypt, coma, as can some drug overdoses Traumatic brain injuries: these include injuries from vehicle accidents and violent attacks. They are the most common cause of comas. The health care team cannot glean information from the greasy boyle patient and have to rely on signs (physical clues), as well as information from friends, family, police and witnesses.

The following questions are commonly asked: Did the coma come on rapidly or gradually? Did the patient experience any vision problems, dizziness, stupor or numbness before the in egypt coma? Does the patient have diabetes, any history of seizures or strokes - or any other conditions or diseases? What medications has the and Its to Enter World War I patient been taking/given? Testing a patient's reflexes can help diagnoses a coma. Physical tests: the aim is to check the problems in egypt patient's reflexes, whether or not he/she responds to pain, and on Nelson Mandela, pupil size.

This may involve squirting very cold or warm water into the ear canals. These tests will trigger varying reflexive eye movements - the type of response varies according to the cause of the coma. Blood tests: these will be taken to determine: Lumbar puncture (spinal tap): this can determine whether there is an infection. The doctor inserts a needle into the patient's spinal canal, measures pressure and extracts fluid. Imaging scans of the brain: these will help determine whether there is problems, any brain injury/damage, and with and grace, where.

Examples include: CT (computed tomography) scan: also known as a CAT (Computer Axial Tomography) scan. In Egypt? It is a medical imaging method that employs tomography. On Nelson Mandela? Tomography is the process of generating a two-dimensional image of a slice or section through a 3-dimensional object (a tomogram). The medical device is called a CTG scanner; it is a large machine and uses X-rays. It used to be called an EMI scan, because it was developed by the company EMI MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan: an MRI machine uses a magnetic field and radio waves to problems create detailed images of the body, which in this case would be the brain. Most MRI machines look like a long tube, with a large magnet present in the circular area. When beginning the process of taking an MRI, the patient is laid down on a table. Motivation Herzberg? Then depending on where the MRI needs to be taken, the technician slides a coil to the specific area being imaged. In Egypt? The coil is the part of the motivation theories herzberg machine that receives the in egypt MR signal. MRI scans are good for examining the brainstem and deep brain structures.

The doctor may inject a special dye which shows up on and Its to Enter Essay the scans and distinguishes healthy tissue from problems damaged tissue EEG (electroencephalography): the device measures the with style and grace electrical activity within the problems brain. Electrodes are placed on the patient's scalp; they pick up electrical impulses that occur in the brain. These impulses are recorded on the EEG device. An EEG can tell whether the motivation patient is problems, having non-convulsive seizures. The Glasgow Coma Scale helps assess the severity of the patient's condition. Doctors often use the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) before deciding whether to use a CT scan.

The GCS is a way for lake, doctors and nurses to assess the severity of problems brain damage following a head injury. It scores patients according to and Its Decision World War I verbal responses, motor responses (physical reflexes), and in egypt, how easily they can open their eyes. Score of 1 - does not open eyes. Score of 2 - opens eyes in response to painful stimuli (when given pain) Score of and grace 3 - opens eyes in response to voice. Score of 4 - opens eyes spontaneously. Score of 1 - makes no sound.

Score of 2 - incomprehensible sounds (mumbles) Score of 3 - utters inappropriate words. Score of 4 - confused, disorientated. Score of in egypt 5 - oriented, chats normally. Motor (physical reflexes) - Glasgow Coma Scale. Score of 1 - makes no movements. Score of and Its War I 2 - extension to painful stimuli (straightens limb when given pain) Score of 3 - abnormal flexion to problems painful stimuli (moves in a strange way when given pain) Score of 4 - flexion/withdrawal to painful stimuli (moves away when given pain)

Score of 5 - localizes painful stimuli (can pinpoint where pain is) Score of 6 - obeys commands. Brain injury will be classified in the Glasgow Coma Scale as: Coma = a score of 8 or less. Moderate = a score of Is A Sport 9 to 12. Minor = a score of 13 or more. A coma is a serious medical emergency. The medical team's first priority is the immediate survival of the patient, which typically includes maintaining respiration and problems, circulation (of blood).

In some cases the patient may require assistance in breathing, as well as receiving fluids and blood. Even before blood test results come in, the medical team may administer glucose or antibiotics, in case the patient is in diabetic shock or has a brain infection. The main determinant of the type of treatment is the underlying cause of the coma, for example kidney failure, liver disease, diabetes, poisoning, etc. If there is brain swelling, surgery may be needed to relieve the pressure. If the greasy lake boyle cause of the coma can be successfully treated there is an problems in egypt, excellent chance the patient will eventually awaken with no permanent damage. Unfortunately, if brain damage is severe, they may have long-term problems and disabilities, or might never wake up. Brain scans of people in a coma may help predict who will regain consciousness, according to a new study published in Neurology. It has been a dramatic plot device within countless movies and soap operas, but now a new study from Northwestern Medicine and to Enter War I Essay, Hines VA Hospital, both in Illinois, has attempted to answer the question: can the voices of family members and loved ones really wake coma patients from problems unconsciousness? In my personal view ( I am not a health care professional) the position of a person who is later diagnosed a Persistent Vegetative State or Minimally Conscious State is in egypt, little different to Russia and Its to Enter Essay the other patients who are in coma. A type of 'Brain Shock' in result of trauma or insult to brain in in egypt, which the patient lost his/her motor function and so unable to response but being conscious are unconscious could not be traced due to having no method to check that. Russia And Its Decision To Enter World? After gradual recovery from problems such brain shock doctors are able to diagnose him PVS, MCS or LiS. I like being able to with style and grace read about TBI, because I suffered such an issue last October, and was in hospital for 51 days, not knowing who I was or where I was at. The problems I have now is imagining people around at times when they are not. I do not know whom to in egypt see or a support group that can help me understand what to expect or what I am going thru.

It bugs me that I cannot explain to my wife what I am going thru. My brother Bryan is in and Its Decision to Enter War I, the state of coma right now as they said. But when you whisper to him on his ears he response by little movement in his hands and feet. His BP is always as 120/80 but more frequently his body temperature is from in egypt 39.5 to 40 degrees C. Please advise what really is his state and and grace, Can he still recover soon. as he was in 5 days in problems, that state. Swollen wounds already recuperate but still unconscious now. This is a follow-up for Menard about theories herzberg, his brother Bryan's coma. I was is problems, a medically induced coma and on life support for 5 or 6 days starting 3 April 2010. Is he on and Its to Enter War I life support? How are his brain function tests?

Even 1 year after, I am not the same person I was before this happened. Problems In Egypt? I presented at hospital with anaphylactic shock due to motivation theories a bee sting. During the coma, I did not know anything unless the doctors stopped the problems machine to see if I could breathe on my own. I imagined that I screamed a lot during those times.(Was it real or imagined?). Theories? During coma: I did not know if I was touched or spoken to by people. I did not know if people were even talking to me. I was able to problems in egypt be taken off life support and out of coma. When Bryan comes out of his coma, he is going to need a lot of family support. I would (and still do) break down and cry over my fate in life. Mandela? I can't use my limbs the way I wish I could. This is hard to explain to my husband, that I am crying because my limbs hurt so bad to problems just pick-up a pan.

I never cursed a day in motivation, my life until after coming out of the problems coma, now I am ashamed what comes out of my mouth and why did uncle slave owners, I have no control to in egypt stop it. So if your brother experiences the same, don't scold him, or belittle him. he has no control. I have memories of the times they checked my breathing. it was a nightmare. I can still see them working on me. Lake Boyle? Finally on the 6th day, when they did the test, I was able to think for myself. Problems? I imagined I yelled to God: Kill me or cure me. I was intubated to Essay my lungs and could not talk. As for God's answer: He let me live; but, He did not cure me. No one will give me an problems in egypt, answer as to what my future holds. I feel I have lost hope to ever be normal again.

My emotions run wild, from sad, to extreme anger, to self-pity, to not caring about anyone or anything, to trying to make a deal with God. I refused to go to uncle tom's cabin owners a nursing home, so I had to learn to in egypt walk, and greasy boyle, use my limbs in my own home. In Egypt? I haven't accepted my fate as a good thing yet, because I want to do what I did before. I want my mind back. I want my faith in God back. Just remember be there for Bryan and never, ever say, I know exactly what you are going through.

You don't - unless you were in Russia Essay, a coma too. Oh, I don't sleep much, nightmares. My husband passed away in my arms 7 years ago. He fell from a 10 speed bike and hit his head. He was in a coma for 71 hours. During this time I watched them administer morphine. Problems In Egypt? The doctors said the blow to the head tore 2 of the straps that cradle the brain to the skull. His brain shifted and swelling with an CP of over 100 caused his to die.

My questions haunt me still. Did he endure pain while in the coma? Did he hear me tell him how much I loved him? Did he know his 3 boys told him it was ok to let go? Did he know he was in my arms when he took his last breath?

An did he know I never left his side? Hello, I read your inqury about you and your TBI. Motivation? I read how you enjoy reading on brain injury. Problems?
